What if people can't speak Mandarin?

GMAN

I think its fine. Just that they may not be able to hold a proper Englsih convsersation and thus less comfortable, thats all. But they should be able to explain technical stuff in English.

The shop is like what many bros have mentioned. You know what to get, go into the shop ask for it and get it.

So you mean they don't like to serve people "below 20 or look like one"?

Have experienced some apathetic service at TK. I'm 17 btw. According to friends around my age, they haven't received good service either when at the shop

although i dun look like 17 or 20, i dun think i receive good attitude as well... intially i thought still ok, cause they keep to the price that i get from their e-quote... but then after i went out of the shop with the lens... i feel that the "throwing filter in front of customer" when the customer refuse to buy that filter is something not very nice...

and oh ya, in case you r wondering, initally i ask for the hoya filter, but the sales person told me that hoya and tokina comes from the same place and ask me to get a better grade filter... but i feel that hoya is gd enough... so i dun wish to buy...

Cannot say I've had really bad experience with John3.16.. I've bought stuff from John3.16 but I can tell you.. it seems too fake... this guy calling you "bro and all"..

i have to agree with you... feels like the treatment you get from a used car salesman.

Exactly the same happened to me too. Spoke to them in English during my first visit and it was terrible service (short replies to qns). 2nd time I went with my friend who spoke to them in mandarin and they simply open up and describe the product features in detail. So I learn not to judge a shop's level of service too quickly. Visit each of them several times before u jump into conclusion.

Jus to share my experience.

My first visit I went in asking things in English but the conversation was not flowing. My 2nd visit I spoke to them in Mandarin, they became "more friendly". Not saying that they were not helpful when I was speaking English but I think its just that thay are more comforatable speaking in Mandarin than English. Generally they are very helpful, straight to the point and reasonably priced.

Just my opinion.

me too...just can't stand the bro here bro there. once I was abt to settle my bill with Sam and ang mo came in. he just walked over to serve the ang mo who ended telling him he can get cheaper price somewhere else. I shd have told Sam to keep the damn camera I eventually bought....never been back since.

So bottomline is J316 prefers to serve ang moh, or put it in another way, give priorities to ang moh?

pay for service is one thing.

being KIV-ed one corner, wait for 'brother' to attend to those who came in later first (feels as though you're a regular there, throw you something to look at and tells you to "help yourself"..), is just too darn ridiculous. sometimes the wait gets as long as an hour.. or even two. and price? not the lowest.

will never be back. EVER.
