Hi
mylau i really, sincerely think u're throwing your money in all the wrong places. seriously, if u really want to collect cameras, you should collect
REAL cameras. u know, like those special edition Leica bodies and lenses
These plastic digital all singing all dancing toys / gizmos u're buying now will drop in price in less than 12 months and no matter how long u hang on to them, their value will never increase and nobody will want them.
CONVERSELY, if u have a Leica, even if it is not a special edition, these things will only appreciate, after taking inflation into account.
Look, late last year Leica just discontinued the last of the fully manual mechanical M6 TTL in favour of the electronic M7, after a production run of
18 years. 18 YEARS, not months. Boy am i glad i got one of them before they expire cos all over the world pple are rushing to get the last of them before you can buy them no more from retail shops. The prices will only steadily increase as the years passed.
I think i can comfortably retire EARLY in a few years time after selling the M6 at a as yet undetermined grossly inflated price

Or, if film is still around, hand it down to my future son / grandson. These things are built to last. The second hand M3 I got was made in 1960 - i was only born 15 years AFTER that! The 50mm lens i bought to pair with the M3 was made in 1968 - again before i was born.
Together the ancient M3 + 50mm lens took 50% (2 rolls) of the Korban 2003 shots i posted, the other 50% with the M6 + 35mm lens. Starting to get my drift?
At PMA 2003 this year, Leica revived the mechanical line (boy that was a quick revivial) with the latest Leica MP. This caused an amazing amount of stir because it's a return to the traditional production methods and tooling - it's a M6 with the extreme durability and precision of the M3. It's the most well built Leica M ever, and its priced the same as a M6 TTL.
In fact, Leica is so confident of the MP they offered a 5 year warranty worldwide, plus a guarantee of spare parts for the MP being available for the next
30 years.
Now of course film may not be around for 30 years (neither may Leica, for that matter, but think about how much a MP would fetch after 30 years when u can no longer find one
And the
best thing is, these cameras are totally 100% real shooter cameras! you can actually use them! *gasp* they don't run out of batteries cos they don't need them! *double gasp* you can shoot and shoot and create wonderful pictures with them again and again reliably! And they increase in value while u're doing all that shooting! (worn black bodies are more collectible to collectors) *faint*
See mylau? collect objects of value, not toys. If i have the money like you, that's wat i will do. Unfortunately, I don't, so i'll just use my Leicas till they're all worn out - in like, about 50 years time?
