Opinions/advice needed for lens upgrade path for nex5n

Do you know that you got the exact same Pentax set-up with me before I sold them off? Haha...

Anyway, the EA2 adaptor costs $391 (SLRR) + Tammy 28-75 ($450 I got it from the classified section).

Yes Norman, I remember you with the exact same Pentax set-up. lol..

Wa.. the EA2 adapter so expensive..?
$700 plus just to get my Tammy 28-75 onto my Nex.. LOL..

I am using nex 5n with sets of carl zeiss lens: (1) carl zeiss zm 50/2 planar, (2) carl zeiss zm 35/2 biogon, (3) carl zeiss zm 28/2.8 biogon, and (4) for tele use carl zeiss contax-g 90/2.8 sonnar with adapter contax-g to nex from Shogun made in japan. So, i never used kit lens 18-55. All my zeiss zm lens attached to 5n using adapter Shogun made in japan. Some of photo taken with combo nex-zeizs manual lens, see my flickr, search with keyword "michaelhd", that's my account.....

Its my nex-5n family sets...

I think I will go LA EA2 way as I just got a Sony A55 for my sister :)

Hi Guys,

Juz got my Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 & Sony EA2 adaptor for my Sony 5N. I am a newbie here, so please bear with me. I suppose my new Tamron
f2.8 to be a much better lens but it seems to focus slower than the kit lens & noisier.. At times it just cant focus on object that is nearer. Not sure if the problem is with my camera setting or the lens is not meant for close up. Mostly I just use auto mode but did try around some other mode as well just to compare. I also have problem tracking the object that I wanted to focus & the lens is giving off some weird sound when focusing. Is this normal? Sorry to ask these kinda questions, because I am just worry that I might have gotten a faulty lens without realising it.

H,m, it's unusual . Are you very sure you have the ea2 adapter ? Based on my experience, with the lea2 , the af speed becomes faster . I tried it on my tamron 17-50 though . Noisy af sound could be usual , I have the Sony version of the Tammy 28-75. Let me do some testing again to see if it's much slower.

Hi Atarandas,

Thanks for your responds. Yah, I got the Sony EA2 adaptor with translucent mirror. Cost me $440 with no warranty!;( As for the Lens, is there a different model for different camera? Just to clarify, the model I got is Tamron SP AF28-75mm f2.8 XR DI LD Aspherical (IF) Macro... Cant remember where I came across in the forum there is a BIM & non BIM. Not very sure what was that & which one I got.. I have yet to test it outdoor. Mainly taking shots in the house but I guess it doesnt really matters right? Actually I am not really sure what is the benchmark of fast or slow for the Tamron lens. BUt as compare the with kit lens, it seems the kit lens feels so much better even at f3.5, Kinda felt demoralize not able to utilize the Tamron with the money spend on it.. Sigh.. Anyway, I will still try more shots see if can figure out something or see any difference with various settings. Btw, I am still not very familiar with the 5N as well. So please advice. Thanks.;)

The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 33cm. If you focus at near objects that is nearer than 33cm, you will not get a focus.

As the tamron is not a SSM or a SAM, its still a screw drive AF lens, it will naturally be noisy compared to the e-mount kit lens, which uses silent electric af. Especially so when you try to use continuous AF on it. As the AF is still screw driven, you will hear the gear sound , Chek chek chek when its moving back and forth to get a focus.

The tamron should have very good centre sharpness. I suggest you try it out doors in good lighting. This lens has very good reviews so not sure when you the kit is better at F3.5, are you referring to IQ or the overall experience.
