Actually Hawaiisg had answer some of the miss out that I had mention . And as I say before I find amusingly excited about the copy right issue and deeply I think Singapore need to support us , we are not collecting enough fees from Client for copy right and the things is when we are not paid well enough .

And you are right too about getting inexperience young people to work for me is not something for long term , but in this market it is very difficult to find someone who you can trust and relate to . I personally like fun loving people in my shoot and I think most of my asisstant who work with me know why . For the last many years I used a senior guy 20 years older than me , he is good but due to his age he decide to retire , I found no problem working with him and of course when I look for a new replacement I expect the same quality and to me giving myself more time with more interested photography asisstants is the only choice , in CS I found many good one but some are going army, some are going uni. so if you are me what do you do ? My work require me to travel very offen to other country , getting a full time staff will never work for me untill.... and I cannot bring myself to employ just anyone , he or she must be someone very special , they must have the three things which I can relate to a good asisstant - Creative , hardworking , fun . And the thing is that I'm runing my business it really doesn't concern other people , when I write about something about young asisstant I want them to know that never be dishearted about how others look upon them , it's the gain they will have many many years down the road , it's something that they will want to try , want to do and experience everything about Business Photography . So and again young and interested People are always welcome to my shoot , I'm sincere and don't lock yourself out with too much others concern .

I really dun understand why some people are ALWAYS so adamant to trash someone else thread. Sense of self righteousness? A misplaced one i would say.

Most of the time, things are very simple. Keep it that way.

1) right of pictures. frankly, who REALLY cares? I tag along to shoot a event, if my mentor wants to use it for his client, go ahead. At least it means my pictures are good. If ANY mentor needs ur pictures soley to survive, then he clearly have no substance.

As people have more education, they tend to urgue more, demand more, think of weird situation and end up screwing themselves and pissing others off.
In the good ole days, where got so many things like what vince says above?

EVEN if things are so complicated, WORSE come to WORSE, you just shoot for nothing for a few hours. YOU WOULDN'T DIE.

2) exploitation? Come on la. EVEN if it's REALLY exploitation ( like being a FREE PA) ,you wouldn't die RITE?

3) if u are so scared of (1) & (2), dun reply la.

SIMPLE

Clubsnap is really a place with losta funny people.

I agree. And I can understand Free Agent's point of view and I don't find anything wrong with that. I believe it would be difficult for him to find someone to replace his assistant who is retiring, considering his genuine needs and getting a good candidate match. To me, he is just using CS as a platform to find suitable photography learner who wishes to have an insight to how a professional photographer carrys out his work and learns hands-on Business Photography.

For people who think that this is exploitation, or not a good deal, I feel that they should screen themselves out in the first place as clearly there is a mis-match of 'opportunity' and 'candidate'!

Just treat Free Agent's post as a 'job posting/ advertisement'. If it appeals to you, PM him to let him know your interest to find out more (sounds like applying for a job?) If he is interested in your application, he will contact you for a discussion (first screening?) If he feels you might be the suitable candidate, he may probably arrange for a meetup to further discuss on the opportunity - tells you more about himself, the business, the type of clients, his expectations, while you share more about what you can do and cannot do, assessing both parties comfort level in working together etc... if finally, the potential 'candidate' is not comfortable with the 'terms', all he needs to do is to 'reject the offer'.

I'm sure when you see a job advertisement for a, say, Temp Admin at $7/hr at say, Tuas, you definitely would not bother to applying for it if you already have a permanent job or lives too far or have a much higher pay now, right?

I just don't understand why a simple thread like this can run into so many 'complications'.

BTW, for those who are just curious, my job has nothing to do photography. I'm in recruitment.

It is not about trashing someone elses thread. Or was it obnoxous on my part. It is just that it felt like a rather one sided arrangement to me.

If I wanted to go for an internship or to learn from someone I just thought it will be very good if the TS could just simply provide some little information about himself and what kind of photographer would benefit from the arrangement. Would someone with 5 years experience benefit or will someone with absolutely no experience be more suited for the kind of work he was doing. Also when people intern with companies for peanut pay they do so knowing fully well the scale of the company and what they can learn from interning.

If I were to look around for a "intern photographer" which I have before, I clearly let him know the returns to him, such as unique venue, challenging photo angles, and so on. And I paid him an intern pay - $20 an hour. I do not ask for any experience and he was free to use the photos anywhere he wanted.

Anyway good luck to you Free Agent, may your training benefit as many photographers.

if u are anygood people will go to you, instead of you asking for people, if u are asking for people to "apprentice" you, that means u need them more than they need you,
there fore u have to pay.
either way i have been in this business long enough to smell BULLSHYT
