you didnt quote his entire post.
with 203 posts, i assume you are pretty new to clubsnap.

stay around longer. you will learn to see the light.
and dont take things too literally.

To do DP justice, I will quote the his whole comment but I still disagree that what is in capital letter is totally not helpful.

PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS, PLEASE.
YES, I AM SCREAM, BECAUSE I CANNOT STAND IT ANYMORE:thumbsd:

Take a look at the first picture. The hair around her neck, looked as if the model had been garroted!! Look good, yes, no? I said it destroyed the entire image, whatsoever.

And this can be seen in TS reply. He did not even realise what DP is saying. He thought what dp meant was the messy hair. Of course I may not know how things will turn out if DP had phrase in a different way.

Is this better? Or any example to show how it can be done better on this picture? Thanks..

This is the original.

But night86mare did it in a different way and...

I AM HERE SAVE YOU FROM SCREAM

dp was talking about the hair around her neck, it is quite true, his comments.

... his message got across.

Oh.. Didn't notice that.. very true indeed..

Thank you very much;)

I had stayed around long enough to know that there are people who help in a encouraging way, people who help in their own way nasty way and people who just want to be nasty.

Good day:sticktong

Take me to the light.

I'm sorry if you don't understand the meaning of what i said. I am talking to the poster directly and I am sure he knows what I meant.

of course i know what you meant.

my point is, DP has always been harsh in his comments.
he's like the simon cowell of CS,
but i'm not saying he is 100% right all the time.

so back to your post...you mention his photos are not so bad?!?!??!
please...ask yourself if you are telling the truth.

i've seen your works before.so, i conclude either you are trying to be nice, or you aint telling TS the truth about his pics.choose 1.

i dont wish to explain myself further.
i've stayed in CS and other forums(photography related of course) long enough to know what pics are acceptable, and what pics are trash-can material.(quoting DP many moooons back).

so, for those who know what i'm talking about, good for you.

for those who continue to think the pics posted by TS is 'not so bad', then, all i can say is, you're far from the light....and i mean really far.

my last post in this thread.

PS:sorry to TS.i didnt mean to wanna start an argument here but seriously, those are trash can material.please take the harsh CnC, if any.
usually, the harsh ones are the ones that makes you improve.
the friendly ones just want you to remain where you are.

Give credit to TS man. I know and many of us know that there many SENIOR MEMBERS and PROS in this forum but that doesn't mean you SENIOR MEMBERS AND PROS can condemn first timers harshly about their shots! I've been noticing that for a very long time. Just because you have been a SENIOR MEMBER or a PRO, you can say anything you want in the threads. This doesn't happen in foreign photo forums. Their members are friendlier, more constructive and encouraging in their comments. Singapore PROS and some of this forum's SENIOR MEMBERS here are way too arrogant. Shame on you!!! :thumbsd: Remember, you were just like the newbies before. You are not born with a camera stuck up your ass! Just my 2 cent's worth.

i think everyone is losing focus here...

first of all, this is TS threads abt his photo... how i feel is that the composition for the both photos is like normal.. nothing bad but no good either.. juz like a random shot... to be honest... i am not sure its because of the pose or the background.. 2nd photo got nice background though... the 'model'... maybe ur gf... sure looks pretty and sweet... so hope u can try out more stuff...

this is my 2 shekels...

anyway... this is an open forum... we already hv limited freedom of speech but why start debating here... i totally support DP what he needs to say... maybe the way he express is not pleasing to most but to me he is expressing his instensity on this matter so newbies like us noes the importance and significants... i think it shld not be him take it easy.. everyone shld take it easy...

Hi Limsgp,

please take a look at this photo

you see it its almost similar to what you have (the girl and the flowers, not so bad right?:D), this is the very first photo that i've posted in some forum and for me its very good,i recieved alot of harsh comments and i cannot figure why?, for me this photo is perfect at that time and i cannot stop looking at it because i really love it. that's why i keep on shooting and sharing:) and then later on i focus on the details. Until now i keep on learning, shooting and sharing:)

I also have the exact angle of your first image, and same day also and her background is also a building with a blue sign named Mall of Asia. That is why its like a dejavu for me.:)

please keep on sharing, will look forward on it.

Referring to the comment "Those are trash can material"..

Other then the hair cutting across the neck, which are the other serious mistakes that maybe you can comment on..?

I've seen other posting by other members and can understand that these are "not so good". But I would appreciate if you can advise on what is "so bad" about the pictures for the benefit of us who wants to learn.. Thanks. :)

So harsh tsk tsk tsk. Even a Pro wouldn't say such a thing.

For the TS your photos are not so bad, please keep sharing your shots, keep on shooting and details can be focus later on.

No I do not know what you mean.

If you think TS's shot is even OK, that is your prerogative, and you are free to feel whatever you like to feel.

If a real professional photographer fails to see the problem with or understand the flaw of the picture I commented on, I will question his/hers professionalism.

Btw, anyone telling the TS that the picture in question is OK, is doing the TS a disservice. Further more, it only also proves the comment giver to be very insincere and/or very hypocritical.

if you dont know what i mean, then you are slow.

now you are even slower cos what i said is.. "So harsh tsk tsk tsk. Even a Pro wouldn't say such a thing. "

Pros won't fail to see the problem Im sure of that, but pros won't speak your kind of words.

i would advise that any argument be taken in private or elsewhere
this is the TS's thread for him to share his photo and not a "verbal battleground" for anyone

good comments are hard to swallow...

if you only want to listen comments like "not bad" "not bad" "very nice" "very nice".....,
your photos and the comments you get will be still the same "not bad" "not bad" "very nice" "very nice" after 10 years.

many things, actually..

everyone starts off somewhere, so don't worry about it.

if you want good examples of well-taken portraits in casual settings, try looking at some of kongo's threads. the main issue here is composition and lighting and posing.. :) on the whole, the pictures you have posted are lacking in something.

that said, kongo has his own unique style so no need to follow suit and copy everything he does. look at the pictures and think about what makes it good for you.

going into detail, let's take a look at picture 1 here. is there any reason to include the building in the background? how does the onedegreefifteen help your photograph? do you think it might have worked better with a better background? do you think the picture might have worked better if the subject had posed differently? why does the pose seem less effective than other poses, like those in the threads whose links i have posted up?

This ain't HWZ where Post count equates seniority.. anyway, TS could maybe show more "interaction" between the elements.. the 1st pic, staring towards the right, I seem a little loss as to what she is trying to look at/ hint at the viewer.. especially with the defocus logo on the right.. if it continued with a series where the 2nd pic continued the story, it will work..
No2 is all right for a snap shot composition, but "what's with her hands holding the flower?" came to mine. If you wanted to instigate that reaction, you succeeded, if not, do pay attention to minor details especially body language..
Photographing portraits is more than just composition and beautiful places, but body language~
Shoot more and post more!

Why is it that the 'messy' hair in Kongo's portraits works (in fact it seemed to enhance) and why it does not really work in limsgp? :dunno:

The hair element works in Kongo's because it adds to the body language of the model in the picture, (plus don't you agree that his model even with messy hair still looks good lol). For limsgp's photos, the messy hair along the neck was distracting.. (Especially so for the anal technical photographers in CS who made this sub forum a mini firing squad) But since the girl most prob isnt a pro model, I won't fault him.. he should work on the emotive aspect of the photo first before the minor nitty gritty.

assume Ada ur talking about
i think the organiser had his wind machine to create the hair flying effect

because ada is emoing

how can you emo with every strand of hair in place? :dunno:

also, not so emo until the strand of hair cover whole face, etc.. :)

Thks viix, soeypixels, night86mare for the explanations.

So in limsgp case, the messy hair was not contributing to the general emotion of the model :)

we learn it and keep it up :thumbsup:
