OMG! Look at the EM-1 aka the now official E-M1 Thread

is it ugly?

I managed to play with one at one of the stores. Nice feel, very responsive. The IBIS was awesome, I was shaking the camera and the view finder just remained stable. Shutter quite smooth and not very noisy. The EVF was large.

Anybody tried the EVF outdoors in bright sunlight? With my Fuji X100s, the EVF is useless outdoors even boosted so I switch to OVF. If the EM-1 EVF is useable outdoors then it would be great.

Anybody got both a EM-1 and Fuji X series (X100s, XE1, XPro), wondering how does the image quality match up to ISO 1600/3200. I need only around 6Mp, as I hardly print, even if I do its to 8x10 so 6Mp is plenty. Also when I upload to Facebook I upload high quality 4-6Mp images for people to download.

i used to have the XE1 and i find the EVF usable in sunlight..
why do you find the one in X100s not usable?..
the EM1 EVF is usable in sunlight.. huge and bright..
much bigger than the XE1.. (which is the same as the X100s EVF is i am not wrong..)

to be honest the IQ of the EM1 is almost the same as EM5..
if you google around.. i am sure you can find comparison between the two..

Well usable is subjective .. It was very hard to see in bright sunlight compared to using an optical view finder.

OVF definitely better in bright sunlight..

I used the XE1 EVF at the zoo and had no problems.. Only problem was the lag..

Coming back to the EM1 EVF.. I think it's the same as EVF4?.. Like I said it's huge and bright.. But then it's subjective so might not be good enough for u..

XE1 EVF lags pretty, especially when move and shoot type of shots. EM1 EVF & VF4 same magnifcation, EM1 has auto brightness adjustment, however coz i wear specs on bright sunlight, i have to cover the gap from the specs to my forehead, else the glare can affect the EVF. suppose this is similar to OVF situation, else, evf EM1/VF4 works well for me.

So..... I got my E-M1 (body only) yesterday and has been playing with it the whole morning. I only have one word 'AWESOME'!

It definitely is a more than worthy replacement for my trusted E-5 and the new sensor really really brings out the best in the original 4/3 lenses! No regrets in splurging at all.... anyone wants to buy an E-5? ;)
Alright... more time spent with the E-M1 and I'm totally sold as it being the replacement for my E-5. Despite it being smaller than the E-5, my larger 4/3 lenses (14-35mm, 150mm) actually balances very well... I'm 1.75m tall, and my pinky (last finger) did not feel out of place gripping the camera. The camera feels very solid and I feel very confident with the blackrapid strap dangling the 150mm upside-down (yup, the E-M1 instill that kind of confidence). For me, I do not see the need for the HLD-7, I'll probably use the voucher to get the newer flash to replace my FL-50R instead...

I've not done any 'real' shooting yet, but playing it around the house, taking small objects under all kinds of lighting, shooting across the flat at the laundered brassieres, tracking moving cars, cats... all usage were very very positive. The autofocus using the original 4/3 lenses is quick, but most importantly, very accurate and precise.

I'm a very happy camper!

Anybody got both Fujifilm X series (Xpro, XE1, X100, X100s) and Olympus EM-1? How would you compare them ... I did read all the articles on the Internet (Steve Huff etc), just wanted to hear from other people as well ..

I'm currently into Fujifilm X series and while the image quality is great, shooting experience is not so great due to slow action .. Shooting with the EM1 had that 'shook' feeling. I've got an EM-1 on pre-order .. just not sure whether to take the plunge or not.

How much did they pay you for this post?

Ha ha ha... just kidding.

Making me anticipate my set coming. Hope the dang thing will not be delayed in shipping.

played around with the HDR function. i think it's going to be very useful for me, for the times i'm too lazy to mount an ND grad.
the controls are very responsive, perhaps even too responsive. on the E-M5 set to low speed burst, i usually can do single shots 90% of the time . with the E-M1 only about 30% of the time, the rest i get 2 shots before i release the shutter. time to re-train the index finger and get really acquainted with the shutter button.
i didn't like the strap. it had honking big OLYMPUS in white letters on the neck/shoulder pad. i think i'll swap it with the more discrete E-M5 strap, which is also easier to scrunch up into a small bag.
the D-pad at the back is depressed a little too much. might be an issue when wearing gloves as one will likely hit the OK button inadvertently.
but i'm just nitpicking here. overall, i'm really loving this new camera.

Haven't really got the time to shoot with the em1 at the moment but alrdy started with the buttons customization.. agree with Scroogee for the need to retrain the finger for shutter release..

That side, the next closest cameras that I've known to be so customizable on its buttons are the ones by Ricoh.. even em5 didn't even come close due to the lack of buttons to customize..

The ergonomics definitely improved from em5.. I hated the em5's buttons with a passion (big fingers) as they are too small and becomes difficult to press once my nails grow out.. the EVF is also much more comfortable comparatively in terms of usability and the stock eyecup..

Haha... Honestly, I'll be happy to advertise for Olympus, the E-M1 is really a good camera, and to be able to use the original 4/3 lenses with acceptable AF speed (for me) is great!

Outstanding 84%, even better than EM5! I tested C-AF didn't really get the results as compared to DPreview. I should test more again. On 43 lenses, i get similar results. No "shutter shock" like EP5 :)

I didn't have a real situation to try the C-AF and tracking capability but S-AF with 12-60 SWD, 50-200 SWD, 14-35 SWD and 9-18 was snappy. AF performance with 43 lenses in low light (street light) is not too appealing though... Now, AF performance with m43 lenses is another story, especially with 12-40. In short, superb!

DXOMark says sensor performance near identical to E-M5. So keep the E-M5 if you don't want the PDAF.

That's my suspicion from the start.
With Sony as the sensor supplier and no big leaps/changes in sensor technology appearing on the Sony front, it was highly likely the RAW sensor performance would be similar to the EM5, with small generational increment improvements.
Bear in mind quantum efficiency of current state of the art sensors are already >50% meaning we have less than 1 stop to go for a 100% efficient Bayer sensor.
