OM-D E-M5 firmware 1.2 released

My download (when the screen on camera was blank) was almost 20 mins. Then the screen light up and update started. Less than 1 minute Ok appeared.

Maybe you didn't notice the OK.

I waited the download till finished (didn't take too long for download), then the nice update icons appeared on the E-M5 LCD. After 1-2 minutes the LCD went blank. I kept watching the LCD for the first 10 minutes after it went blank, but no 'OK' sign. So I left it and nervously waited the 'OK' for about an hour.

Today I went out with my EM5 without tripod in the evening. I was very very surprised I managed some incredibly steady shot at 1/4 sec shutter speed. Before update to 1.2 the slowest I managed was 1/10 and not guarantee clear shot. This evening, almost all my 1/5 - 1/4 sec shots were clear without camera shake.

Anybody notice any improvement of IBIS in addition to AF after update to 1.2 ?

Managed to update my firmware in less than 5 mins, but seeing that some bros takes around 30 mins for the update, not sure if I did it correctly. But did check the firmware of the body is 1.2 now.

Probably those who update earlier met with a lot of traffic cause many update at the same time.

Haha... so maybe there is also something good about being slow here.... Was looking forward to wait at least 30mins to do the updating, so was quite surprised to see it completed so fast.

The download was slow (probably traffic), but update was less than a minute once it started.
:)

Guys.. I'm shocked that oly's update process is still in the 20th century. Just a little OT here and not to cause a flame war, but for panny bodies, its so easy. Just download the firmware file on a formatted SD card, put in camera, press the review button and it will update the firmware.. and its done is approx 2 min. hmm.. wonder why oly isnt allowing update via SD card.

Oly's update process is more sophisticated than Panny's because the same updater program is used to update all camera, lens and accessory firmware. It will list all the things on your camera that can be updated and you can even choose which one you want. Oly's updater can even update a Panny lens on an OMD body. In fact, I updated my Panny 100-300 to firmware 1.2 using the Oly updater. With Panny, you have to find and download different files. That can be considered primitive.

That's true. Apparently with Olympus, they call it the global updater or something, so they will update all 4/3 or m4/3 lenses.

yesterday i updated the firmware while I putting on 25mm 1.4 summilux lens. but i noticed that software not able to detect the type of lens I putting.

So I tried again with 25mm lens this morning and the same problem. There is no lens type shown beside the lens and lens firmware is shown v1.0.

Following up, I immediately tried with all other lens I have

panny 25mm f1.4 - Not detected and v1.0 shown
oly 12-50mm - Yes it detect, show correct lens type and version
oly 45mm f1.8 - Not detected and v1.0 shown (I wonder why cannot detect for oly lens)
panny 14mm f2.5 - yes it detect, show correct lens type and version
oly 45-150mm - yes it detect, show correct name and version

Anyone has the same problem with the software? Can you verify pls? I believe its a bug or something

Yes, i get the exact same screen above with my Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4 lens attached. So much for a common m43 standard. Its possibly related to my camera hanging issue with the PL 25mm lens.

Just updated to 1.2. Was very fast, not like the 30 minutes mentioned by some.
I think only took around 3-5 minutes at most. I dunno cause I went to grab a coffee.

Yup, same situation with the 25/1.4, the updater does not show the lens model.
I tried again with the kit 12-50 lens, and that one shows up in the updater.
I wonder if we will ever be able to update 25/1.4 lens with the E-M5?

I update mine with the 45mm and it was detected by the updater.

Updated mine with 12mm F2. But weird thing is I noticed the rattlesnake shutter prob disappeared with my PL 25mm F1.4 lens. Focusing also seemed to improve by "milliseconds"

Never had the rattlesnake issue even with FW1.1.

Same thing happened to me with the PL25mm.

Update took me 15min 32s (yes I timed it !). Done at 11:32pm last night.

Perhaps I am imagining things, AF seemed faster (tested with Panny 14 & 20mm lens)
