Olympus Live Composite Function

How to use it?

6. Press shutter to start Live composite, the camera will do a base test shot, press again to start. Stop when you deem fit from viewing from the screen. As the shot progresses, it shows "A x B" where A=#of shots & B= composite time that you set.

Thanks for the steps.

Correct me if my understanding is wrong, the whole process, the shutter button need to be pressed 3 times ?

1st time - to take the base shot

2nd time - to start the live composite function

3rd time - to end the live composite function (or can we set the total duration so that it will auto stop ?)

Thanks

1/2/3 Yes. No auto stop, u stop when you deem fit.

Thanks wonglp ...

Nice feature .. tried it and it's so cool ...

Welcome and have fun, it's great to see Oly giving this to EM1, and certainly more users using this function :)

A couple more to share.

Hi Mr Wonglp, I am trying to take this shot. Can I know the location where you shoot this from ? U took this at around 6.45 pm ?

But for this shot, you did not use the Live Composite function, right ? Only long exposure of 0.5 sec, right ?

Thank you.

Would you be kind enough to repost these 2 photos ? Thanks

shot was done sunrise, it's with Live composite, location is the HDB block near to Telok Blangah MRT. If you click on the picture, it will lead you to the shot in flickr, and you can see the exif. 1/2sec is the base shot. Totally, it was probably 1-2min. So total about 120-240 shots. Exif though wouldn't tell you total number shots done. It only captures the base shot info.

Sorry, I can't really tell which shots are those, I probably did some adjustments hence it wasn't showing. Here's a full Live Composite album on my flickr, you can see from there more examples than what i posted here. hope this helps.

Here's the latest ones I did using EM1 v2.0 live composite to capture lighting from home.

F5, 9mm, 5sec, ISO200. Pana 7-14mm lens.

F7.1, 6s, 8mm, ISO200, Pana 7-14mm lens

So obvious meh? :D

Though I'm not selling mine yet, till the PRO one comes along ;p

Just found a video I did a while back with my handphone, sorry for the poor quality/skills. Hope this helps explain a little better, I can add some notes in it if still not clear.

Hahaha jackwolf ... nearly bought the 7-14 until Olympus announced they coming out with 7-14/F2.8.

So for the time being, I make do with my 12-35 ... :bsmilie:

This is priceless because it is difficult to wait for lightning !

Sunrise timing is independent on area in singapore, its dependent on day of the year. Typically i will arrive at location at least 30min in advance of sunrise. you can find the sunrise timings quickly with google. Shot was taken 643am from my exif.

An outstanding shot that demonstrate the value of live composite on EM1 & EM10

Agreed ... not easy to plan in advance and wait for lightnings in S'pore ...

But just wondering, why is the sky purple in colour ?

Thanks

Thanks, the lightning display was exceptional that night, this shot was total 5min. the 2nd shot was total 20/30 min can't remember, but pretty much I click start, check once a while, come back and...stop :) the noise reduction was only based on each exposure time rather than the entire period so just wait a couple of seconds I can do another shot. As opposed to other long exposure with m43 cameras, if you shoot say 60sec, you need to run another 60sec for the LE noise reduction. And that's a killer at times especially when you are losing moment (light, colors, laser show etc...), unfortunately this is still the bane of m43 sensor with long exposures.

Thanks wonglp,

I think what bro jackwolf said is correct ... I went to HDB Blk 44 near Teluk Blangah MRT. I used a 12-35 and it cannot achieved the frame that wonglp showed us, definitely need a 7-14 ...

I also went at night but the color was totally off, too yellow bcos of the lightings from the street lamps ... any tips on what am I supposed to adjust the WB to ?

Thanks

I used Auto WB. Shoot Raw and you can control your WB better.
