Olympus Live Composite Function

this shot was total 5min. the 2nd shot was total 20/30 min can't remember, but pretty much I click start, check once a while, come back and...stop :)

Paiseh, did not really get what you trying to say ...

Do you mean to say that after press 1st shot (ie the base shot), then you wait for 20-30 mins later, you snap the 2nd shot.

Then you press the 3rd shot to stop the whole thing ... thanks

The first shot is for camera to establish the base shot. 2nd is to start the actual shoot, then it continues for as long as you want, which in this case was 20-30 minutes later, 3rd stop.

Oh, I realised I had 7-14mm shot on the same day too.

Here's how it would look like, just that bit less tight (and sharper too) :)

Thanks wonglp, this (the 1st shot, 2nd shot and 3rd shot) I understand.

Just that I am confused why you said the total shot was 5 mins ? What was the 5 mins you were actually referring to ?

Thanks

This one taken at 9mm, very nice shot !

Unfortunately my 12 mm not wide enough for this. Either the end of the Reflections condo was cut-off or the curve part of the highway was cut off ....

HDB Blk 44 has 3 lifts. Did you take from the Centre Lift at 7th sty ?

Thanks

A couple more to share.

With 9-18mm, 1/2sec, F9.0 @ 9mm

Can't remember really, but i know which one when I'm there, I remember was 9/10 th floor though.

It's the time between the start and stop. If each shot was say 5 secs, and total time is 5min, it means the camera took 300/5 = 60 shots. Did u see the video I posted a few posts earlier? It shows the progress, at the end of it about 28sec (1sec x 28) it was still continuing as I did not press to stop (3rd press). so I can go on till I see the live view progress is what I want, then I press to stop

Wong,
Lovely. Now let's all chip in and figure out how to correct that aspherical distortion on the condo to make it straight. :bsmilie:

can I know where did you take this shot from ? thanks

Just sharing a shot taken few weeks back with live composite function - stacked 3.2sec but I can't remember how long total exposure coz quite gan cheong shooting it hahaha. A tad overexpose, I realize my EV was 0, should have taken about -1EV and that should be good. Hope this helps anyone going to shoot fireworks with EM10, it's fun feature. But , the wind can be your worse enemy:o

A tad overexpose, I realize my EV was 0, should have taken about -1EV and that should be good.
I am having problem to adjust the EV.

I switched to Manual mode.

First I tried to do a long exposure. As I move the dial to adjust the shutter speed to 60" and the camera auto change and adjust the EV numbers. When I stop at 60", the EV reads +3. Needless to say, the end result is an over-exposed picture ...

Then I move the shutter dial to Live Composite, the whole LCD screen becomes so much darker and the EV reads -3. Needless to say, the end result after the 3 presses, is a picture that is too dark ...

In both cases, I was not able to adjust the EV.

I read the manual and it says that EV is not available in Manual mode ...

So what shall I do to be able to adjust the EV value bcos adjusting the ISO in both cases only have negligible effects.

Thanks

The EV reads -3 because either
1. Your aperture is too small (large F number) Or
2. Your speed is too short (press menu to change that till EV become 0)

ISO you should keep it at ISO100/200.

Please read my post 2 again

Ok noted but forgot to tell you I was using the Olympus fisheye lenscap lens ... the apertue was fixed at F8 ... cannot adjust one ... :(

Ok good point, I didn't think of that ... will try that ... cheers

Yeah I always keep it at ISO 200

Please read my post 2 again
Will do that.

Once again, thanks ...

cheers

Nice shot wonglp,

Can I know, for this shot, where you took this from ?

Looks cool leh .... is this sunrise or sunset ?

Thanks

I realised some situations which may not render this function well, e.g. moving clouds, and it depends on the cloud type.

It's apparent the patches of clouds that were stacked, although the intention was to take the boat trail. Looks like some water colour effect :)

EM10+Panasonic 7-14mm, F9, 6sec of 3minutes composite shot. The single shot exposure 6 sec can be extended longer with either stopping down or with a stronger ND.

Hi wonglp,

I have 2 problems. Hope you can help and teach me ...

Problem 1: over-exposed
I tried this shot too ... from the same spot at Esplanade ...

I noticed I also get the white light over-exposed (some where behind) ...

When I went up to take from the bridge near Fullerton, the Merlion is always inside the framing ... but because the Merlion are lighted up by white light, when I do the Live Composite, the Merlion is always over-exposed.

Any way to overcome this ?

Problem num 2: Signboards
I am having problems with the signboards which are litted up by lights.

For example at the Esplanade area, one can see many buildings' logo are litted up by light, for example DBS Bank. But on the photos, after doing a long-exposure, the DBS Bank wording are very blur ...

Any tips on how to overcome this ?

Thanks

For certain instances, like shooting MBS laser show, you can't really do like 20-30sec exposure as the laser won't be recorded.
Here, the exposure was 5sec, for about 2minutes or so. 5 sec is hard to achieve smooth water reflection, so possibly another single shot of long exposure can be done and blended in post. But still a lot less work.
EM10+Panasonic 7-14mm, 5 sec, F5.6. OOC jpeg (with some blown highlights).

You can either:
- Reduce your exposure of live composite, shoot in Raw, recover blown highlights. Even so, it can be tough sometimes.
or
- Shot another shot exposed only for the brightest spot, and blend, you will need similar software to Photosphop / Gimp. Google more on blending videos on youtube.

If it's blur shots, likely it's a result of movements in your camera, you will need a stable tripod, and cable release or shoot using wifi Olympus Image app. Unless it's something else you meant

Testing out close to sunset live composite when the cars start to turn on the lights, used a 6 stops ND filter to extend the time to 2.5sec, total about 2mins.

F7.1, 2.5s, EM10+Panasonic 7-14, 6 stops ND filter.

Sharing a 2nd test star trail shot from comfort of home. First test shot (not shown) had moon trail in it and was distracting, so lesson learnt, choose a clear sky night... And yes, it's boring but at least was shooting from home so not that bad :)

Olympus EM10+9-18mm, F5.6, 20sec, for 3 hours, continuous. Raw process from Lightroom.

If you want circular star trails, you would want to face the camera towards the north star, apparently my home view isn't..

NICE!!!

May I know which ND filter cum adaptor you used to fit the 7-14 without vignetting?

Thanks Mingkor, nice meeting you at the 40-150mm/2.8 outing :)

It's a DIY adapter improvised from Francis247 idea. The difference was I mount 100mm filters on it with a 100mm dofilter brand holder, a 82mm ring was glued permanently onto the gasket. Slight vignette till 8mm. Fiter used was Haida ND.
