Looks like Oly is attempting to capture the casual lady-photographer niche.
I wonder if it can function like a belt holster, like y'know, DRAW YOUR CAMERA! :bsmilie:

Wow!!! This 420 is fantastic!!!! Wasted no IS only. Well, at least I dun have to wonder which P&S to buy. This looks good enough for a P&S. And I think it would probably be good enough for my underwater snorkelling and diving camera!!! Are we going to organize any GB from Japan? I assume it would be the first country to start selling it??

That might be a third party case design... like a real point and shoot camera... good idea bro.
I've been brainstorming a little about a belt with a holster and holders for the pancakes (assuming Oly will expand the line with a 12mm, 17mm and 40mm) - light as a feather, mobility wouldn't be compromised, peeps on the street would be less intimidated.
If Oly play their marketing cards right, we may have a cult streetshooting cam in the making.

As the new Oly 25mm F2.8 pancake coming rela soon. I am luckily to have controlled myself from paying S$778 for the Sigma 30mm F1.4 yesterday.
Also if you go to the FourThirds website, you will see the 14-35mm f/2 as one of the lenses you can "see" on a body:

Amazon has the pancake on pre-order for..... US$250!
I am sure most of us knows that a fourthird sensor should fit a fourthird body ..... the point here is that we think Oly is using the E3's sensor rather than the E510's sensor. And we also do know that both are 10MP. Just that the E3's sensor have a wider DR ......
It seems that way, but it also seems that processing power has been enhanced. If they put most of the E-3 into the E-420 (and E-520), will the splashproof body of the E-3 be the only draw? I remember having similar thoughts about the E-300 and E-500. Hopefully, they'd be smart enough not to cut into their other models' market.

1. Weatherproof.
2. Durability; magnesium alloy+metal+++ versus plastic/glass polycarbonate.
3. Customisation options+++ versus P&S modes.
4. Overall feel; buttons, dials etc and even size (420 may be too small for some ...)
5. 100% viewfinder.
6. Faster AF.
7. IS.
8. Swivel LCD.
9. Interchangeable Focusing screens.
10. Ext vertical grip/battery holder.
10. Shutter to 1/8000 and 5fps.
The first few features itself will separate the E3 from the E420 as for the pros/serious amateurs/ from the rest; will novices pay ~$2.5K for a body without lens? Or will the pros pay <$1K for a camera without the initial few features?
I do think that the E3 remains a great buy TODAY for its target audience ....even with the presence of the much cheaper E420Same for the E-1; the E510/410 still doesn't match the E-1 for some features ......
Using the MacBook analogy. Today's Macbook is more powerful in terms of processing power than the MacBook Pros of 2/3 years ago but still lags at the feature set or overall feel. Or a 5 year old Lexus still rides better than a brand new Vios ......

That's part of the reason I didn't like the E-410 or E-510 or the MacBook. Things just weren't right and it felt like I was settling, just to get some new piece of equipment. However, it feels as though Olympus is working on those concerns as they're being pushed by Pentax and Sony. Apple will always keep its equipment in place but Intel is pushing them to use new processors much sooner.
I really hope that the E-420 (and E-520) build their consumer base because they're really starting to look tempting.
Simplified reply : Gear junkie! :bsmilie:
That's not me. I'm just always considering the deals and I'm sure there will be deals soon. :bsmilie: I still need to wait for the E-3 or E-5.
