Wow! I like the ant shot, very nice side ways instead of the regular shot from the top for ants, or sideways but on tree branch/leaves/wall.

Did you do this on steps?

Thanks ayanto! The ant was strolling along a small drain, it's a very low level shot that I need to use live-view mode for that. :)

Another shot of the ant, it was not happy and wanted to bite me.

Yah, there were a lot of them crawling beside me when I was taking the pics. That time I was a bit worry, but I think they enjoyed to be my model, so none of them bite me. ;)

Nice DOF on the ant shot.

Thanks howeikwok, actually I was there to look for flying insects like dragonflies and butterflies. However, I failed to shoot them correctly as they were too fast, so end up shooting the easier target, the crawling ants. :embrass:

Yes, they are the 1cm red tree ants, don't know why that day all were crawling on the drain.

Don't see this uncle tummy big big, his stroke was very powerful. The golf ball was driven off with the tee falling down at the same location.

oh, I wonder why the DOF on your bee is much more than the DOF on my ant, which I used F/5.6 on the Sigma 105mm macro.

Forgot to ask you which lens you used for that shot?

Its the ZD50mm f2... i guess your DOF is short cos the sigma is a longer lens? if we're shooting from the same distance your sigma will naturally have shorter DOF due to the FL... i think. I was about 10-15cm away from the bee if i remember correctly.

I think the side profile of your little ant has nice dof cos it sits nicely parallel on the plane of focus whereas for the ant head shot, the body was perpendicular to the plane of focus which is only large enough to fit the head at that setting.

Thanks for the pointers. :) I understand it now.
However, I still wonder why some non-4/3 users still commented that 4/3 DOF not thin enough.
Sometimes thin DOF might not be an advantage, I would prefer larger DOF in this case.

Haha. So cute.

The 4/3 DOF is good for macro. But for some portraits, you might have some difficultly. Besides, 4/3s doesn't really have fast lenses, like f/1.4 or something, besides the 25mm f/1.4 or Sigma 30mm

Yah, can always get 3rd party F/1.4 lens if they want really thin DOF from 4/3.
This photo shows how thin the DOF can be achieve using 4/3 system with a F/1.4 lens. I focused on her right eye, but her left eye is already slightly out of focus.
