Olympus Announces the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 25mm F1.8 (50mm, 35mm equivalent)

I wouldn't sell the 17/1.8 for the 25/1.8 :) I've both and both have their merits & diff used at their respective focal lengths. Overall construction wise , it's clear that the 17/1.8 has a better quality build.

If u r planning to get a 45/1:8 , my guess is get the 17/1.8.
Thanks for the response.
Currently have the 12-40/2.8 and 17/1.8 and was thinking about flipping the 17 to get the 25/1.8
But I keep having the impression that 25 might be abit too narrow or tight focal length.
I agree with you bro. the 17/1.8 indeed have better build quality overall.
Guess I need to fix my zoom to 25 and try it for a few days before deciding :(

That's a good idea :) I initially found 17/1.8 view enough but after using the 75/1.8, even the 25/1.8 is wide ;)

In comparison, at their price points and the quality they deliver for their price, u can't really go wrong with either one with the only problem being getting used to the focal length.

Frankly I can't answer that really as it goes back to your personal preference for 35mm vs 50mm though most likely I'll end up with the 17/1.8 as primarily I know I prefer 35mm doing street shooting vs 50mm. I'm attracted to the 25/1.8 this time round simply as I know it's IQ is close to the 45/1.8 and given its weight and price point , it's really a superb deal.

The 17 has also been 'upgraded' in a certain sense too with the EM1 which provides individual lens profiles in its firmware. Construction wise , the 17/1.8 definitely is better than the 25/1.8 and this is reflected in the diff in costs between them. The 17/1.8 has a snap focus mechanism which I find really useful and not avail on the 25/1.8 too.

Both lenses have very similar min focusing distances of around 25cm too.

Come.. just dug out for u bro

hi what dose the snap focus mechanism do? care to guide? thanks

Snap mechanism is a analogue overwrite the camera as a manual focus only. It is also for user to choose focus fly by wire or manual.
