Thanks Sree! :D but i guess the availability of those accessories is limited i guess since it's new.
Just curious, have read up about the focusing lag at night due to low light. Have you encounter problem with it? And saw posting about the shutter lag when taking "action" shot like sports or fast moving object due to the f stop. Any comments from you, the early adapter of 5060?

Pardon me for my idiot questions, i know nothing about controls in SLR. Terms like f-stop, shutter, aperture and stuff confuse me as always. Trying to learn. Correct me if my question is phased wrongly. :p

Lastly, thanks for the time and effort spent on advicing me. :)
I haven't tried the sports mode but I hasn't encountered any focusing lag at night. Perhaps, I was using the "P" mode instead of Night Scene mode. This babe works very well in "P" mode even during night shots! I would only recommend using "Night Scene" mode when you have a very sturdy arms, or when you have a tripod around. Hey...this is only my personal preference....and my two cents worth. Cheers!!!

Thanks Gavin! Been searching around. Any 3rd party flash that works with this wide-angle monster? Thought the sigma flash 500DG Super that those nikon and canon shutterbugs are using can be used on olympus but find out that it's not able to control. Any recommendation?
Also curious about 3rd party battery? :p pardon me but original stuff is so expensive. Would be nice if there's a cheaper alternative like those canon and nikon counterparts who have 3rd party battery from eastgear. Ha, sorry... a cheapo poor man here

Hi Slacker

Focusing at night is not a problem. The camera has a focus assist (dual autofocus through contrast detection system & phase-difference detection system) and this helps a lot, making it fast. I found focusing to be better/faster than G5 (when testing at the shop). I only have problems when trying to focus using the Macro.

As for action shots, it does have shutter lag but then all digital cameras (ignoring DSLRs) have this problem. 5060 is better than most. I sat behind my friend's motor-bike in Phnom Penh and shot away as we rode at about 60km/hr. All shots came out clear and focussed. However I did notice "lag" when taking a few pics of buddhist monks who were close to us as we went past. I'll try and post the pics at some stage. One way around this is to turn the Fulltime AF on, or pre-focus, for fast-moving object. Fulltime AF will be draining on the battery though. I haven't taken many action shots as yet.

Sree

Thanks Sree! Your opinion have make easy to decide on this camera. :)
BTW, you had the tele conversion lens. Wondering if the new bayonet style of fitting snap the lens tightly on to the adapter? Heavy when yoou attached the tele on? Trying to imagine the Wide conversion lens (aka Sunflower to me :p ) on to the small little tube. Saw someone from oversea posted the actual pic of 5060 with sunflower plus battery holder and really make this camera look like a monster. :p

Glad to be of help Slacker.

The CLA-7 (55g) and TCON-17C (95g) are relatively light. When I remove the TCON to take some normal shots I just put it in my pants pocket with the caps on (I leave the CLA on the camera). Much faster than putting in back into my camera bag. The bayonet style makes it very easy to install/unnstall.

However when I followed the instructions I found that the fitting was not a tight fit. There appeared to be no "lock-in" either. However after some fiddling about I realised that the instructions were probably not complete. After turning the TCON clockwise to fit it in, you also need to turn the outer CLA barrel clockwise (till the olympus labels are aligned). Then it is sitting pretty tight. Silly me.

If you are not satisfied with your basic equipment, you can modify by going for a longer one (TCON) or a fatter one (WCON). Pity not all equipment are that easily adjustable ;-)

Hi Sree,

With the CLA-7 (without con lens) , can it still use the len cap?

was about to ask Sree on the filter thingy too .. :) BTW, how much u brought the filter Sree? From gravin, i understand that there's 2-3 different filter available for 5060. Which one to go for? And do you have to remove it when u fix up your tele lens? APpreciate your sharingof knowledge over this. :) now waitingfor cheaper 3rd party battery for this camera.

Shark, you cannot use the lens cap with the CLA-7 on. That's why I wish they had made the CLA a wee bit longer so that the filter can remain when the CLA is fitted on and serve as a protective layer. Guess they were worried about image quality. In my case, if I have the TCON on, I just put on the TCON lens cap. Otherwise I just loosely put the lens cap in the "wide hole" of the CLA. Not a good solution though. Can't add anything in front of TCON though as no threads. Any bayonet fitted filters around I wonder?

Slacker I got the filter free when I bought my camera (John 3:16), 40.5mm HOYA UV. Yes you have to remove the filter to fix up the TCON. To quote my mail in another thread:

"However, if you wish to use the TCON-1.7c or the WCON-0.7c then you need to install the CLA-7. The CLA-7 adapter is only to attach lenses. Note that the filter must be removed in order to use the CLA-7 with a lens attached. "

BTW lens cap does fit snugly with the filter on.

I would recommend at least a UV filter. OLY UV and polarizer filters are also available here in SIN.

I would recommend a UV filter at least, and a polarising filter if you like to take photos near the sea etc....it can make a lot of difference. Both filters are available in Singapore. However, I was told to wait for a week or so if I want to get filters from John 3:16 cos' they dun stock it......if you find the original filters expensive (they are!), you may like to check the Hoya filters...I think yypoh has it. You may like to check out http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=55020

Right...unfortunately, you can't use the filters with TCON or WCON...and I haven't of any bayonet-fitted filter either...Will be first to inform if I ever find one...cos' I'll be one of them to get it too...Hee...

Sorry...no 3rd party battery yet...and pls let me know if there is cos' I want one....and it costs a whopping $120 for the original.

ya man ... the lowest quote i got for batt is 110. Still ex. :( Will post if i find it anyway.
Ladies and gentleman, one big question.... what 3rd party flash can be used on this wide-monster? FL-50 is good but too expensive at 700! Cost half of the camera! Any good 3rd party around? Brand? Price? Something like Sigma EF 500 DG Super to sub a Canon 550EX. Hope to find something as good as FL-50/40.

Instead of the Olympus FL-20, FL-40, and FL-50 flashes following alternatives are recommended by users:

The Metz Mecablitz 32 Z2 with an SCA-3002 module http://tinyurl.com/278y (there are bigger models by Metz that will work).

Soligor DG-20 DA and DG-34 DA http://www.soligor.com.

Promaster models 5550 and 5750 with the module 1050DX http://www.promaster.com/flashes.html

Thanks Sree! you have been a great help. as your info that provide, seems like those brand are hard to find locally. I'm a newbie ... not too sure about what brand those shop carry. Hope it's not too ex. :p ... call them up now to see which fit the budget .:) thanks again Sree!

Shark if you want to put a cap on the CLA-7 you will need one of 72mm (approx.). If you find any lens cap of that size pls do let me know as i'd like to get one too.

Sorry slacker can't help more than that on flashes as I got the FL-50 and am happy with it. Did not look for alternatives. BTW did you get your FZ10? AP quoted me $876 (w/o GST).

Thanks for your info.

Any idea when the LCD hood is arriving?

I will like the LCD hood if someone knows when it is arriving. Cheerios! 5060 Users!

Hi Guys,

Just a few question on the the camera mode:

- Which mode do you use most often for different situation? (Spot or iESP)
- Any comment on this Metering? (centre-weighted)

Nope Sree, have tried it on the day when it arrived at MS-Color but never buy it due to the mixed review i saw which make my mind all mixed up about this camera. :p

However, with helps from a friend and Garvin here (thanks Garvin for you "all-out" help!), i'm a 5060 proud user now though i'm much poorer too! :D So happy!

To day, have the battery grip, the adapter and the wide-angle lenses now. Been trying out shooting "rubbish" to understand my "wide-monster" (shhh ... that's my nick i gave to my 5060 :p ) As i know nuts about SLR stuff, it's a really advance camera that i can learn alot from it. Hope to get some tips from you guys to improve my skill. :)

Thanks Garvin again. Though i didn't make the purchase from the shop you help to get e-quote from, you have been a wonderful help along with Sree. Xie Xie!

Hope to post some pictures soon. :)

Just checked the price of C5060 today... it's $1230 at Funan, Third level,

John 3:16. I really like that shop.. i guess i'll get my cam from

there next year ..

AP quote me 1150 for the camera inclusive of GST.
However i brought the camera with a bundle freebie and got myself afew good stuff. A small electronic dry cab (20l), epson 3in1 printer(which i sold off at 220 and earn myself a batt grip), 256mb(which i upgraded to 512 with 100 bucks top-up). Depends on how you see it. Gain a small little dry cabinet which fit my room and i love it. :) BTW, brought my wide-monster at MS-Color AMK. Like their services. :)

Yeah Cool Man! Dun thank me too much...it was really nothing. I'm very fascinated with this cam still. Shot more than a thousand pics with this baby already...and am dying to get the polarising filter and batt grip. I haven't sold the epson printer yet...perhaps..i should..and get myself a grip too!!! Hee!!! Hey..you really should try the multi-metering in highly contrasted background. You wun believe how good this baby is.
