Oly User to Sony

hahah I'm not worried on the price was just concurring to the bros previous post... to me body changes fast it's the lens that we need to invest on... I am still trying to build up my A-Mount lens coming from other brand to Sony you need to start building your lenses....

the problem now I need to let my wallet heal 1st before i could start buying lens one by one :)... i'm thinking of getting maybe 2 more to complement my exisiting lenses.

Oh just want to add as per my previous posts I am very satisfied with my current cam there's some good and bad but I think the best of all is I now atleast could catch my 3 yrs old kid playing and will have a hit-miss ratio of 7 out of 10 not like previous system I am lucky if I could have a good 3 shot out of 10.

Hee hee bro.. same situation here... rebuilding my system slowly... But I love the Sony flash system.. built in flash commander, and the F42 have the wireless flash option too.. $ save from this contribute to the lens coffers ..

yeah true need to build from scratch... you reminded me to add to my checklist flash argh!!!... I dont think I'll be moving camp so soon after investing on my gears

CZ 16-80 is one of the best walk around lens for Sony

I am thinking of getting this but it's a bit expenssive for me maybe a cheaper solution will be 17-50 of Tamron :( but I do home I could save some $$ to get this lens

I owned the legendary Canon 1755 f2.8. ditched once to get the tamron. But after a fren's wedding dinner, I ditched the tamron. Super noisy hunting, soft and the colors.. I do not think that tamron is a good lens to catch your daughter in action.

Went back to the Canon after ditching the tamron.. Happy. And now, comparing the CZ1680, I'm happier. This CZ is cheaper than the Canon 1755 , longer reach, but of course, lost the F2.8 and the USM..

Bro, see the photos I posted on the A33/55 photo thread. Just did a comparison of this CZ with SAL50mm 1.4 .

tks bro for the feedback... apprciate it :) must save to get a good lens then lols like they say nothing comes cheap anymore if you want quality...I was hoping Tamron would be cheap and good :P

Maybe I got a lemon. But my 2 experience with Tamron lens were not good. There are pple who swear by that lens, but just not me. A buddy told me the MTF results of the Tamron lens are among the best in 3rd party lens.

For me, I will pay 2X the price of this Tamron, get faster AF, better optics ,longer reach in the CZ and I do not need the F2.8.

Tamron lenses generally focus faster on Sony bodies compared to Canon cos they can rely on the body's motor rather than in-lens micro motor.

Oh, U mean the SSS motor ? Can you share further how will the SSS motor enable that on a Tamron lens ? Will like to learn more.

Anyway I am refering to the focusing of the Tamron on a SOny body compared to a CZ on a sony..

Nope not the SSS. SSS is Sony's equivalent of Canon's IS. SSS has nothing to do with focusing speed.

Unlikely EOS mount lenses, where all focusing motors are built inside the lenses themselves, A mount lenses don't have those motors and they have to rely on the motor inside the camera.

Generally reported, the motors Tamron use for their EOS lenses are slower than the motors used in Alpha bodies (and Nikon/Pentax for that matters). That's why Tamron lenses, in general, focus faster in other brands bodies than Canon.

oh got what you mean... all along I thought having motor inside the lens is much faster/smoother than using the cam body AF motor...

My brother also say Tamron is good lens only problem is the glare... so need to have a good UV filter... but I dunno how UV would reduce the glare

I see.. Thanks for the information... Good to know this.. Haha...

In-lens motor, better or worse, really depends on the motor itself.

Glare wise, UV filter, or any other kind of filters for that matter, only makes glare worse. Hood is a good start to reduce glare. Thou best is to improve your situation awareness, to avoid positions that prone to glare. Or just suck it and live with it :bsmilie:

yeah true bro... I have this UV filter and it does a funny thing on my lens it produce ghosting effect. example is when i shot facing some bring lights like birthday cake candle, or shooting against window at a certain angle... there are time I was so annoyed I remove my UV filter lols... I never has that issue with my other setup with UV filter also...

Lol ! ...and just to let you know how 'slowly' I'm rebuilding my system, I started back in 1985 ! :bsmilie: ...still buying, trying and selling lense.

I think one of you is refering to SSM (SuperSonic wave Motor) and the other is talking about SSS (Super Steady Shot) ...totally unrelated.

A mount lenses DO have motors inside them !!! ...eg: Sony standard kit lens, the 18-55mm SAM or the 55-200mm SAM or the 50mmf1.8 SAM, etc.
Their top of the line G lenses have the SSM motor inside the lense ...in recent years, Sony has been slowly moving towards motor in lense rather than screw driven AF lenses but they have maintained compatibility with the whole minolta lenses range by incorporating the screw-drive motor in all Alpha bodies ! (unlike another major brand where some bodies got motor and some don't )

Tamron does not currently have any Alpha lens with the AF motor build in, their 60th anniversary celebration lens, the 70-300mm DI LD USD would be the first when it come out later this year.

Haha... Its good to try out different lenses and see what works for you. So If I have any enquiries on A mount lenses I can check with the guru here ? :)

Thanks for clearing up... I am wondering how would SSS help in the focusing.. Haha..

Actually how fast a lens focuses largely depends on how fast the af motor is.

Probably Canon rely too much on in-lens af motor, so the bodies do not need to have really good af motor in them, thats probably why its slower than USM.

For sony, using different bodies also have different results.

I used my tamron 1750 on A300, A700, A550, A500 and now A55.

It definitely feels not as fast in A300, very fast on A700 and seems even faster on A500/550 and A55.

I am sure A77 is the answer to all critics of A33/55.

SSS doesn't, SSM does :)

SSS = IS
SSM = USM

;)

Thanks. got this part.. SSM is supposedly better than SAM ya ?

yes.

SSM is fast and silent.

SAM I don really see any advantage over screw mount lenses, its definitely not faster. Maybe abit less noisy.
