Oly 12-40

f2.8 v f2.. to some that is worth the weight : )

Hopefully, the image quality of the 12-40mm will be just as impressive, and my GH3 will handle the lower light needs just fine. The extended range is a good thing, if the image quality is there and the distortion at the 12mm end is sufficiently low.

Using 12-40mm on em5 should still be considered as fully weather sealed just tat the em5 is not freeze proof right ?

How often a freeze proof will come into play??
Weather seal is good enough for my money to go for this lens if not will be the 12-60 SWD

As often as you would go to Siberia...

I've explained to many people, all these are on paper, 1g diff no one can feel the difference, so why not try for yourself. Although this is 80, it's still in the g, I don't think can really feel

I've been playing around with carrying my laptop, camera, ipad around. You'd be surprised how much difference 100g can make after a few hours

to be frank, I'm more interested in the minimum focal distance. I've been doing tabletop reviews and I can't find a macro that's wide enough for it. My 12-35's ooo-k so far, but 5cm would make a lot of difference for me.

meh, we shall see.

Yes, it's even closer than the Four-Thirds 14-54mm and I've always found that extremely convenient for getting close when I didn't want to switch to a macro lens.

When you put it that way, probably, but normally, I don't feel the Diff, not even after hours.

The 12-40 has 0.2m focusing, it focuses really close, but I never measured

I just tried the 12-40mm..

The minimum focussing distance seems closer than 20cm..
It seems more like 15cm..
Although like spidey I did not measure..

20cm is object to sensor distance, not object to front glass distance.

Yup..
I just edited my post realized that I typed 5cm..
The lens itself was already around 10cm

Posted already that Oly had informed by email latest by end Oct. hence street shops probably slightly later

I'm leaving Singapore by Nov 2 so my best bet would be to get it directly from Olympus? But I checked with them & they only provide pre-orders for camera body or kit :(

Unless I can find someone who wants a body-only option & combine for a kit. Anyone? ;)

I am in the same situation/thought as you, need the lens by early Nov. Maybe I should do the same, looks for someone who want body-only and I get the lens, haha.

I guess it depends on what you use your cam for.

Like for me, my cam is not for humans, it's for nature. I intend to go hiking and stuff, so let's say I go up a moderately cold 5-10 deg c mountain, the wind chill can easily bring it down to 0 deg and below.

Or you might end up travelling to europe during a cold winter.

I actually went down to TK to play around with the EM1 today and yea, even thogh on paper it should be 20% heavier (em5+1235 vs em1+1240), it doesn't feel that much heavier.

btw, I took some size comparions if you're interested: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1313945

Also tried the minimum focus distance and the 5cm definitely makes a difference for what I've been doing, looking forward to it

I know I happened to test out the minimum focus distance (@max zoom, i.e, 40mm) and the front element to the subject in focus is definitely <5cm (more like 3cm). I think LP has a photo to show that.
