Wow, these old lenses are getting a new lease of life :)

The experience of using old manual lenses is very different from using an AF lens. Forces you to think more before you shoot, and not just be trigger happy and snap away!

From my recent trip to the North Island, New Zealand. All shots using Leica 19mm R, 2nd ver. This is my favourite UWA for landscape.

Let me know if u ever wanna sell this lens... LOL... Awesome lens U haf... ;)

Minolta MC 58mm F1.2

How much you bought ? Where ? Ebay ?

Prices can vary a lot, but is usually around 500-550 Sing dollars including shipping.

This lens really needs to be used on FF to show its full potential. APS-C really doesn't do it justice. :)

Not likely! This is my favourite UWA. Very low distortion, great colour rendition and contrast, but corners are soft with vignetting wide open. But then I do not shoot wide open for landscapes. I like this even better than my 21mm Elmarit-Asph M. You can still get a good used copy in eBay for about USD2500, almost the same price I paid years ago.

Here are a few more shots using this lens,

Awesome, thanks. I will start looking around for it... Thanks for d advise on not shooting wide open for this lens. Cheers.

Not really for Leica lenses. I bought this about 8 years ago through someone who worked for the distributor in HKG. I paid about $3K. The current 18mm in M mount costs more. I believe if Leica were to update this lens and sell it today, it would be around $5K! Even though I have the CZ 16-35mm zoom, I still prefer this lens.

Hi everyone! I am a newbie and trying hard to experiment with old, classic lenses.

Currently I am using a 5D II body and have since acquired Leica R 28/2.8, CZ Jena Tessar 50/2.8, CZ Biotar 58/2, Leica R 90/2.8 and Leica R 135/2.8. As shown in the other senior's thread, the pictures are all so contrasty, colourful and sharp. I still could not get such type of wonderful pictures using the lenses mentioned above. On the other hand, I can get nice pictures using newer lenses such as the Voigtlander Skopar 40/2, CZ Planar 50/1.4 and CZ Planar 85/1.4. Is there a special method or secret in getting such wonderful photos? My old lenses have been serviced recently to remove haze and some fungi. However, I still could not get the same quality as the newer lenses.

Your views and opinons are sought. Thanks.

chanced upon this thread, and would like to seek advice from the gurus here:

I've got a couple of MD Rokkors, and would like to convert them into a Nikon mount. Apart from the Fotodiox adapter (which sort of degrades image quality), are there any alternative convertors for this?

Thanks!

You can send ur lens to Jim Buchanan or contact Ben, the starter of this thread. Jim can lathe a replacement mount for you. Ben can advise you how to DIY a mount out of adapters and spacers.

Wait till you try the R15mm. I have not tried it on a m43 or 1.5 but I believe only a FF can do this lens justice.

Hi everyone,

Just got into the manual "bug" but using only 600D. Does anyone know where I can get my focussing screen changed to Katzeye one here in Singapore? Will it void my Canon warranty if i do so?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Manual Focussing Club! ;)

I don't think there are any shops selling Katzeye here in Singapore. You have to get it online.

You can refer to this almost similar thread: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/canon/1136733-best-focus-screen-canon-5d-mk-ii.html

The DIY changing of focussing screen is relatively easy. There are loads of video in Youtube showing the process of changing focussing screens for you to refer. The suppliers of original canon and 3rd party screens normally provides a pincer and sometimes rubber finger gloves in the packaging. Just have to be careful not to touch the screens with your fingers and not to accidentally scratch the screens during the process as these screens are very delicate. Lastly, you must remember to change the settings of the focussing screen in the camera menu to calibrate the newly installed screen to the camera body.

Good luck bro!

Thanks, Obelix. But my "hand like leg"!! Do you think shops like Camera Hospital will do it for me - of course for a fee lah.
