Preset means other than the standard setting.

If you shoot together with raw and JPEG (changed to other like contrast, sharpness, saturation) your raw file still no affect at all and only your JPEG. As the the name implied "Raw". If you have raw file then u are more on safe side as no matter how mess up the JPEG is, u still can edit your raw. Thus shooting raw + JPEG is a good practice.

Thanks. That's what I was hoping. Maybe I am not well versed with sony's technical jargons. Pardon me.

i see. the Creative Styles.

in that case, i think that jlee1974 should actually learn first that you don't need to set to RAW or JPEG before tweaking settings.

the same settings will apply to both RAW and JPEG.

just that when post-processing, while both images will look roughly the same, the RAW files give more flexibility to change exposure, white balance, Noise Reduction, tone curves etc. and this is in stark comparison to JPEGs where you can't change anything.

But seems like bro kei has a different explaination.

Maybe I should avoid the creative styles altogether?

When u see in-camera, creative styles applies to raw. But when export (lightroom), u will not see it anymore. That's what I encounter. Not sure if there's a setting that allows u to retain the settings. for jpeg, the style stays even after export.

Give it a try lah. It's digital. U can test all u want.

One possible way of shooting uncooked RAW files and applying Sony's creative styles is to create an image process setting (or more than one) in Image Data Converter and apply it to a batch process. You can convert that to an extremely high-quality JPEG in the same step, although I get much better results if I apply the image process setting and do the conversion in separate steps.

To retain the creative style in Lightroom, after you process and save in Image Data Converter, you can use Adobe DNG converter to make DNG files, which will retain your creative style settings when they are opened in Lightroom.

what i mean is exposure and color settings. the default is set to "camera settings" for exposure and color in Lightroom. so if you shoot in RAW, you have to apply your own sharpness, NR and contrast preferences on the slider options.

Correct... It will be a good place to buy the FE 55/1.8 when it arrives... I already got the salesman contact and will call him just before CNY... Haha...

I have airport pass. Jio me together when the fe55 is here. I can help to get additional -5%. :)

. . . which is why I start with Image Data Converter. My Lightroom is v. 4.4, which won't open the A7/R's .ARW files.

Anyway, I like my results better when I apply some of Sony's creative options in IDC before I convert to a format I can import into LR.

Wa lobang muz share hehe

When I shoot in raw + jpeg, and try to import all the pics using lightroom, my lightroom 5.3 only shows the .arw files, not the jpeg.

But I can see the jpeg files in my memory card when I use other software.

Any settings wrong with my LR?

Lightroom automatic group your raw & JPEG into a photo in LR but using raw as your front view so that any adjustment you made at the develope module will be utilized via raw file fully.
