Guys, any camera shop(s) at T1 that might carry Sony A7 & accessories? Can I get GST exempt on my way back or only when I fly out of country? Appreciate your help as I'm heading back on Tuesday.

Sony shop is at T3.

U can only get gst free if u departing from Singapore. U still can buy if u arrive in Singapore, but it is with gst.

There are also a few electronics stores inside other terminals carrying A7/R and selling without GST, if you dont want to make a trip to T3 Sony Store.

hahahha i can't meet at east coast though! somewhere in town like cityhall/funan/orchard will be nice!

Hi guys.

I wish to check something before I commit myself to this amazing camera.

For these 2 cameras, do the aperture stay closed during focusing? For example, does the camera AF at f11 when I stop it down? Or does it open up to the widest aperture and do the focusing?

I had the nex6 and the camera closed the aperture during focusing. It resulted in slower focusing. This does not happen on the m43 systems though.

Can the owners clarify this?

Thanks!

I never knew that closing to the aperture to focus will result in slow af leh .
The camera would focus at the aperture that was selected isnt it ? cannot imagine the machine to AF at 1.8 and then fire off subsequently at the selected aperture ?

For the nex6, it depends on your setting. I dun have the camera with me now, but there is a setting option called setting effects on/off. By default I think it is on, meaning the aperture will adjust as per ur dial during live view, but when u half press, it will sometimes AF at widest aperture to get more light in for AF. U may observe this when at underexposed settings, u get a momentarily brighter live view screen when u half press shutter.

Alternatively, u can turn the setting effects off, where aperture will remain widest at all times until u release shutter, which will then stop down at ur selected aperture before exposing for the shot, similar to DSLRs. This setting is gd when u have manual off camera flashes and u need to stop down to complete darkness to strobe correctly,

For bros considering buying A7r, i got a quote from a shop in Gurney Plaza, Penang that is better than airport price. Except that it is local warranty. Around $400 cheaper than RRP in Spore.

You might want to experiment with this if u have the camera, or any nex cameras in this case. This was my experience when I used the nex6 with the 24mm lens. The omd operates differently though. It will open up the aperture during half shutter to focus, then close back again. The nex I experienced just fixes the aperture throughout the entire focusing process. Sony may have changed this though.

i just read this. somehow, the images and settings used seem very unmatching.

Ken Rockwell just hit a new low.

I saw this a few days ago. It fits right in with what he's said before about being able to shoot any piece of gear so that it looks bad.

Sure, we know from all the bros testing here that the A7 is not at its best with some M-mount lenses. But how about a look at edge sharpness with a different Leica 50mm lens, in this case a Summicron-R…

Here's the whole frame:

. . . and a 100% crop from the right side:

With so many "experts" doing internet reviews nowadays it's hard to trust what one reads. But I surely would have expected better of Ken Rockwell.

Better to buy and test for ourselves, like bro ricleo mentioned in the other thread. And--to paraphrase what Bjorn Rorslett wrote somewhere in his site--a lens is "good" only if it's good for one's intended use of it.

hi guys, planning to travel and thinking of carrying along a tripod with me. is there any that you would recommend that would go well with this camera? shooting with voigtlander 15mm, 35mm and 50mm so i doubt my setup would be really heavy.
