Had the opportunity to play with A7 and 7r today. Here is some thoughts.
Firstly, the 7 and 7r feels almost identical, the grip is good but still feel a little small especially when u put heavy lens on it. The built quality is very good and it looks nicer when u actually get hold of it. The dials are smooth and the view finder is really bright. However, the batt grip feels very weird for me. It does not share the same `feel´ as the camera͵ which make switching from vertical to horizontal feel like u have just changed to a different camera. A minus for me.
Secondly, the focus was really quick. Both A7 and 7r can lock on to focus pretty well in the dim room. Although it might not be one of the fastest, it is good enough for me. I tried both the 35 and 55mm, they focus very well, but i will say 35mm is a little faster(not scientific). I also tried the LA-EA4 and 3. EA 4 with 85 1.4, 70-200 2.8 and 16-35 2.8 focus almost as fast as the two FE lenses. On the other hand, I could hardly focus with EA3 using 85 1.4 and 16-35. Most of the time it just hunt then give up. I also asked the representatives there, he also say if u wan fast focus get the EA4. The only problem with that is the squarish bottom feels weird in the hand. I also find the 70-200 hard to balance.
Thirdly, the event is great! There is food and drinks. The sony guys brought adaptors for different mounts. They let us play with expensive A mount glass(nobody was taking care of them so they are quite dirty). The presenter encourage us to use legacy lens.
Overall, its a great event and A7/r are good cameras(din bring SD card so image to share, sorry). The only thing lacking is a fixed aperature ultra wide and a 85mm f1.X, unless u wan to use adaptor.
