A7 and A7R pre-sales packages in Hong Kong all sold out. The pre-sale period was from 24 Oct - 10 Nov. Customers who have ordered will get their cameras starting next week. http://www.sony.com.hk/products/apps/product/simplePage.do?modelCode=32826145&lang=en#package Good marketing and promo by Sony HKG.

Lucky folks in HK. They are getting their cameras ahead of the rest who have to wait till Nov, 22th. I wonder if it makes sense to transit in HK airport after this date end of this month to pick up the camera from duty free or it will be "no stocks", "sold out" .

Fantastic! Sony really breathes new life into legacy lenses with the A7/r. I didn't feel so excited about a cam body since the launch of Canon's 5D2.

I wonder if there is any difference when using a M42 adapted to EF and further adapted to NEX vs using a M42 to NEX direct adapter?

Does anyone knows if Metabone's EF-NEX adapter can work with Optix or Dandelion chips?

Sony does always good marketing, except in this corner of the universe. :|

Agreed. Bad marketing, bad communication, bad product line branding. Everything is bad expect good technology and good products they have. Haha.

I am also confused with the merger of alpha and nex series even as a sony user.

Before was very clear, nex as mirrorless and using e-mount.
nex 3, 5, 6 and 7. Mainly 5 as entry and 3 as a cheaper alternative and 7 as medium range and 6 as alternative.

Alpha using mirror (SLR or SLT) and using a-mount, with alpha 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Similar as nex for 3, 5, 6 and 7. 9 for professional with FF and 8 as cheaper alternative to 9.

After they did move like combined a5 and a3 with product a58 then release a3000 with e mount and then a7 and a7r with ff and e mount.

Real confusing for normal consumers, what is the product roadmap and branding of each product line? No communication on that. So how they expect consumer to choose their product and upgrade later. Eg consumer buy a3000 and decide to upgrade 1 yr down the road, taking an increment approach, he might want to go for a5x but he might not be aware of a mount or e mount and bought a a5x with a-mount and then cursed and swear that sony is not compatible with his old lenses.

Sony already established nex product line quite well and merging it with alpha with no communication actually cause confusion. A lot of pple thought sony kill nex, drop e mount and create another fe mount and the other flip side alpha user thought sony kill a mount and will focus on fe mount.

We, sony and future sony users really need to know what is the plans. Is there any?

Personally i think a mount will stay but sony will take the route of Olympus with 43 and m43 once their mirrorless is perfected.

Ef to nex, metabones has the smart adaptor that allows af and is and direct aperture changing. No need for the dandelion chips

Anybody know when A7/A7r available in singapore?

What do you mean by "Log on also nothing"?

Could not find any mention of any preview event even after I logged on to My Sony. And I din get any e-invite either. Checked spam folder too. :-(

Looks like all sold out in HK. Also only seem to have 7R. Nothing for 7.

I am aware of Metabones. However, I have legacy lenses in other mounts and already adapted to EF. I am wondering if I should get a USD399 Metabone and use it with the adapted to EF lenses or return these lenses to native mount with use it with much cheaper direct native-NEX adapters.

The Optix and Dandelion chips are just for lenses identification since the focus beep is no longer required with focus peaking available.

Can't really tell about the resolution as all the pictures are shrunk down, but compared to RX1R, portrait pictures of A7R seems not as sharp. Hope the 50mm lens will be sharper than this?

Sharpness in real life usage may not solely rely on the technical specs of the camera. Most users of D800E with 36mp finds it challenging to produce consistent and really sharp photos, and majority of the technically sharp photos were produced in a studio environment with tripod and stationery objects, or landscape shots with tripod. This feedback is quite consistent from skilled photographers with steady hands, and thus making the 36mp not very practical in real life (if you are hoping for the super sharpness in every shots).

This is probably a good camera for landscape shots with tripod mounted, and a good camera for users with good patience and rock steady hands as good as tripod, as any slight movement will create bigger lost of details than other camera due to it high resolution. It will also be more demanding on the lenses used, as only highest resolving lens can optimise the 36mp resolution, just like the D800E, when only a few lenses are capable of matching the sensor.

It will be a lot easier for a RX1R to take a sharper shot (in real life use) as 24mp is more than sufficient for day to day shots, with a custom Zeiss f2 lens that matches the sensor.

Here's a good review of RX10, A7 and A7R.

Apparently, this is another professional photographer who prefers the RX10.

This is the review, making the RX10 looks really attractive (also click on A7 and A7R review that she has used for a week):

The RX10 looks very attractive and will actually be a good overall camera if one doesn't mind the size and weight. I also don't agree with the argument that 36mp on FF sensor is more difficult to handle than a 24mp 1" sensor. To me the RX10 images look more digital. There are no 2 people that can see exactly alike, especially color and feel.

There are Fortress outlets in the airport. You can email to them to check if one is available when you are transiting in HKG. But for warranty you need to bring the card and receipt to Sony Customer Service in Causeway Bay to obtain the Tourist Limited Warranty to be valid in Singapore. My HKG friend did it for me when I asked him to purchase the CZ 16-35 ZA. The best of all, I was not even in HKG, but the warranty was issued in my name. I think there is also a Sony Service Centre in Mongkok as well. Fortress or Broadway are large electronics retailers in HKG. They usually sell at full list price. If you have the time, go to Mongkok where there are many large retailers ( such as Man Shing, Wing Shing, Tin Cheung) and many small photo retailers. You might get better pricing.

Good luck!

Thanks! Hope there will be stocks and the prices are cheaper.

For what it's worth, NEX cameras have always carried the alpha branding. "Sony Alpha NEX cameras".

Sony HK really good pre-order deal:
