Fantastic comparator from imaging resource that shows that the A7r can kick the D800's butt at high ISO!! The A7 is clearly already as good as Canon's full frames. Makes it hard to decide between the two especially since Steve Huff said that the A7 works better with wide RF glass.

Well, of course they will "focus" (why shouldn't they?) but previously you wrote "autofocus". There is no way his AIS lenses will "autofocus".

I guess its hard to do focus peaking in an optical viewfinder. Haha But it should autofocus with most of your old Nikon lenses

I think everyone reading what I wrote would understand that manual focus lenses cannot autofocus.

Consider if I had altered the sentence as you suggest to "But it should focus with most of your old Nikon lenses". Now the sentence makes no sense because all Nikon lenses focus, so "autofocus" was the right word to use. Hope this is the last of the OT on English.

I didn't know it's possible not to stumble over that piece of information.

This has been mentioned in pretty much every review and preview. And in the YouTube videos shot with the a7/a7r etc. It's really harder *not* to come across this info than the opposite.

Thanks for the much-needed sarcasms. I did update my post that I found it, didn't I? Shall we move on to discuss on more constructive issues? Besides, apart from the Korean guy who actually hold the video test hand-held, there isn't much similar video sample out there.

There's the very long Canadian website review, all shot with the a7 and a7r. Was one of the first reviews out, and is posted on here, on SAR, and on the a7 review compilation page.

But yeah, you "obviously" looked and missed it all.

Well, if you haven't already got any RF lenses, you might want to check out the Cosina Voigtlander or the Carl Zeiss lenses. Cheaper and still almost as good as the Leica equivalent.

what are the RF lenses you guys intend to get with the A7/A7R? do share here for reference of newbies like me who do not know much about the good value RF lenses.

Not just the RF lenses, there's many more but to name a few, the c/y line up of contax zeiss lenses are very very good and the OM Zuiko lenses are extraordinary too! I have a few old carl zeiss jena lenses in exakta mount and they're super bang for bucks!

Hehe thanks! Looks like I have to widen mg research. So far been looking at the rangefinder lenses because of their small size due to the small flange distance (lack of mirror box). One of the factors for me is compact size as well for full frame lenses.

voigtlander 12 LTM, I'm keen on this setup as the smallest widest FF landscape setup (if it works well), seems A7 might be better than A7r, hope to test it soon. And a cheap 50/1.4 OM or equivalent SLR lenses would be cheap & good. the EVF+focus peak on A7 should be the best combo for thin dof shots.

Think CV15 should b safer than the CV12 on d A7 in terms of minimal purple cast. I'll probably stick to my CV15. Contax Zeiss CY 50/1.7 is another awesome lens but heavy CA in some lighting situations. Pondering whether to go Summilux 50/1.4 asph. Will b keeping my CV35/1.7 Ultron asph LTM mount, another CV gem.

If currently you do not have rf lenses, you might want to wait for Zeiss' mf lenses in E-mount. These will have the advantage of having the Exif data transmitted to the camera. Since Zeiss will be designing these mf lenses for the A7/A7R, issues with colour shifts and smearing will be solved. Zeiss and Sony might work together to provide in-camera correction for these lenses. Moreover, there is no need to use an adapter, since these will be native E-mount lenses.

I love 40mm on FF so I will look at these 2 which are quite affordable.

The IQ of the Voigtländer Ultron 40mm f/2.0 didn't convince me so far despite what Ken Rockwell said. Too bad there not many 40mm options with state of the art optics out there.

thanks! I was also considering the voigtlander 12mm and 15mm. Decided in the end on the 15mm for considerations on corner performance, and the version 1 in fact. So nice and compact, and looks beautiful in Silver and i think will go well with the A7.
