Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread

Anyone bought a case for the A7/r yet? The full leather one from Sony looks pretty expensive. Any reports of sightings of the battery grip?

Try yodobashi or bic camera. They are almost everywhere and tourist friendly. I think ageha has provided u with a comprehensive list of stores. The Japanese models are indeed cheaper than what u get over here but do note that u wont be able to switch the languages if u get a japan domestic model camera body. Wouldnt recommend it if u cant read japanese as menu layout do have subtle differences on previous nex models and other cameras as compared to english models and u might have a hard time figuring out what they are from the english user guide. International sets are about just the same price as what u get over here from what i've noticed during my recent visit to the stores. You should be able to get further discounts with certain credit cards [union pay etc] and tax rebate too.

Anyway if u dont mind having the Japanese menu, these cameras are PAL / NTSC switchable within the menu unlike the previous nex cameras. Good luck with your purchase.

I believe you can overwrite and shoot crop E lenses on FF mode.

So yeah, just wanna know if the image circle of the lens is that narrow, and if it would make sense to be able to manually crop wider, say a 28mm equivalent, instead of the default 36mm equivalent. Sel1018 has good extended image circle.

Ok I tried it. Major vignetting. It's wider than pure APS-C Mode but I don't think its usable.

But comparing the Zeiss 24 in crop mode and Zeiss 35 in ff mode, both have the same field of view and depth of view but the former has the advantage of faster shutter speed at the cost of lower resolution, which may not necessarily be a bad thing, for those who have the Zeiss 24 and reluctant to get the Zeiss 35 :x

hehehe the camera feels much better in hand with the leatherette. I didn't like the original smooth front panel... not sure why sony didn't go all the way and cover with leather or rubber from the handgrip.

I like the Minolta 100f2.8 renders the rose . Hey saw the Canon FD 20mmf2.8 look ok the magenta cast is not that bad also for Nikkor 20mm/18mm even the Zuiko 21mm ... Just get non RF legacy lens for wide angle should lessen the magenta cast issue

i just got hold of a voigtlander 21mm F4, will take some pictures this evening and share on the A7/r image thread.

corner performance in terms of purple cast is very good from a few test shots just taken when buying the lens even wide open.

ya.... non RF/legacy lense will definitely work better with the a7/a7R. just that the non legacy lenses will be bigger in size. of course the FD lenses will still be smaller than the EF lenses, but your adaptor to nex will make it a very long lens
