Here is the A7r with my Pentax DA40 F2.8 lens. It looks a nice size for a standard lens. The DA40 is extremely sharp and may keep me happy until the 55mm arrives. Just took some test shots not worth posting, but I'm amazed at the shallow DOF compared to when I used it with a NEX.

The DA40 certainly looks out of place on this camera ......... :think:

btw bros who have difficulty geting the sony battery at $19 for PWP, show the shop this link below. right at the bottom, PWP accessories and shows that all alpha/nex camera can buy the battery at $19

If they didn't have it in stock they should have said that instead. In that case you would have paid for it in full and collected it later. I doubt they will give you the deal on a separate invoice. Dealers are often sneaky here, you have to be careful.

to be fair sony has been tweaking its webpage the past 2 weeks (rebranding NEX to alpha, relocating where links went to). Perhaps CP didn't know where to look to get the latest PWP promotions. The previous PWP promo page for NEX cameras did not include the A7/R because they were not released yet, and i think the website was just updated last night to what it is currently.

Well, I haven't seen a Sony camera for some time which doesn't come with the 2nd battery deal. Online or not, it was to be expected the A7/R will come with this deal as well. Anyway, if he asked for that in store CP could have called Sony. I don't think CP has to look at their homepage to get the latest deals.

Help! My a7 I got yesterday got a sensor dust that won't come off using the built-in sensor cleaning mechanism. Is this covered by warranty? Or will I get charged if I bring it over to Sony Service Centre for cleaning?

Do you have an antistatic sensor blower at home? Usually it does the job, won't be the last time. Don't use a blower which might blow even more dust onto your sensor. Alternatively go to the shop and ask them to blow it off carefully. Don't touch the sensor! If it doesn't come off, simply return the camera to the store and exchange if for a new set within 7 days. If they are unwilling, talk to Sony directly. Don't accept a sensor cleaning at Sony's service centre! If you do that you want be able to exchange it for a new one anymore.

hmmm use a blower to try and blow it off? saw some specs when i shot at F11 and the blower got the dust away easily

if it is one or two dust particles then just leave it i think. Dust will come back for sure think that the dust cleaning function works well nowsaday. Normally i have only few dust particles on sensor after years of usage with my canon and recently with fuji. So hope Sony can be up to that standard.

I dare not to check dust on my leica M sensor haha to scary to look at. But normally shoot f5.6 and wider so no big deal. Just live with the dust.

hi dont mind asking, could the camera be used while charging through USB? am thinking of extending power using external USB power pack.

Would like to share my thoughts on the A7 after playing around with it for an evening. I'm upgrading from an NEX-7.

Firstly, I like the size and the layout. Lots of custom buttons is nice.

Second, dials are a lot stiffer to move than the NEX-7. Probably need to get used to this.

Third, low light performance is really good. Based on my very brief comparison, I feel A7 ISO6400 pics are quite comparable to NEX7 ISO1600 pics

Next, AF is seriously fast compared to the NEX7. Folks upgrading from NEX5R/5T/6 might not feel much difference. Note, I'm guessing here.

In addition, I miss the pop out flash. I bounced the NEX7 flash occasionally. Going to miss that.

The damn hotshoe plug is very tight. Nearly broke a fingernail trying to get it out. Actually I'm a little concern about the reliability of those tiny leaf connectors in the hotshoe. Guess only time will tell.

Still not used to the fact the SDCard slot is not with the battery. Keep opening wrong door.

Weather seal is a nice feature. Will give some assurances in bad weather.

Miss the rapid fire shutter speed of the NEX7. The A7 feels clunky.

I did try the A7 with my Zeiss 24mm. Wow. Low light is FANTASTIC at f1.8.

Initially I was totally pissed that Sony didn't include an external battery charger. Now that I realize that you can charge the camera via USB, I'm ok with it. Not to mention, with the QM1 charger, you can charge one battery externally and one in body. Closest you'll get to a dual battery charger.

Lastly, I like the new menu system. Thou I miss the inbuilt help. Maybe I need to read the manual.
