Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

U guys missed the point? Casual video and holiday. Hands down sel2470z. There's only so much a 35/2.8 can do. Not worth keeping it if u get a sel2470z.

In this case.. I'll actually get the kit zoom..com so much cheaper since its for causal travel photos. Keep the 35. Yes constant aperture is good for video...then just f5.6 on the kit for video then..

Anyone can advise if I should get the Zeiss 24-70 or just settle for the kitlens. Currently using the 35mm. Thought of getting a zoom for casual video and holiday. Is the Zeiss worth the additional 1k++?

In a normal dinner setting of a restaurant, the A7r with this lens will not be able to focus, even with the focus assist light of the camera. Just note the severe limitation in regards low light conditions (not poor lighting conditions).

just to add, in fact i find the AF works better without the focus assist light in dark conditions, plus the fact that the focus assist light can be quite irritating/blinding to your family when taking pictures of them.

I agree..the AF focus assist light is super irritating..i always turn that off first thing i do. And yes, the A7r in low light is horrible at focusing. I recently brought the a7r with the FE55 to the museum and it just didn't want to focus..and i was already at f1.8. Just keeps hunting until i had to use MF..I got fed up halfway and took out my A6000 with the SEL1018...and even at F4, the a6000 focused on everything without any hesitation.

Love using 135mm f1.8 on A7r. Nice aperture n iso combo, low light looks good too.

Hi,

Planning to get a7 with 35 but also looking at Voigtlander 15/4.5
Anyone using this combo and what is the recommended adaptor to use for CV 15/4.5?

Cheers!

Anyone knows if it's possible to assign "APS-C crop - on/off" to a function button? I can't find it in the menu, not sure if i missed it or not.

went back to Sony @ 313 to do another test of the FE70-200/4 last time the lighting was poor they've added few more LED light here's some wide open shots... The lens is not bad, its pretty sharp wide open.

My 1st try of this lens its was not so nice due to poor lighting in the store this time around it seems I am using a different lens :-)

If it struggles in poot lighting, then many (like myself) will hesitate to get it :(

It's not a fast Len at f4 so it will suffer at low light specially if you won't bump the ISO. But if you have the f2.8 A mount version and ok with the LaEA4 plus the lens bulk/size no need to get this hehe to me nit my priority for now :-)

Yeah, contemplating the sel70200g or sigma70200 with laea4. OS is retained.

Yeah, but if A7 native AF can't keep up, also cui.

on A7r seems ok to me like most lenses if you focus on less contrast areas AF may hunt... last time I have no issue in AF seems ok even at poor lighting just that A7r plus this at poor lighting (coz it's f4) not that great (in my brief experience) but the weight compare to A-Mount 70-200 is really huge

I can't understand the purpose of the 70200G on the A7(r) really. Firstly, it's an F4 so low light is going to be an issue. Secondly, when in low light both the a7 and a7r will struggle like mad. Thirdly. the most common uses for a 70200 is sports and sometimes portraits. For sports, the a7(r) is quite hopeless and with this lens, it's not going to help much...so why bother?
Even with the LAEA-4, you will get better focusing but the burst mode on the a7 series is so bad, you won't be able to shoot sports anyways.
And it's because of this i was never interested in the 70200F4G since the day it was announced. I think this lens is better made for the a6k

Hi all,

I just got A7 recently and this is my first FF. So looking to get a lens and I'm sorta tight on the cash at the moment.

Do you guys have a recommendation for a 35mm f2 or lower or 50mm f2 or lower for a canon lens that is cheap and good for low light? I have the adapter for canon lens.

Thanks!
