Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

haaa... cheap and good plus fast glass usually don't go together....

if you don't mind manual focus, the FD lenses are a good place to start? If you are using the Smart AF adaptors for canon EOS, EF 35mm F2 (old one without IS) and 50 1.8 II are cheap options.

Hi all,

I just got A7 recently and this is my first FF. So looking to get a lens and I'm sorta tight on the cash at the moment.

Do you guys have a recommendation for a 35mm f2 or lower or 50mm f2 or lower for a canon lens that is cheap and good for low light? I have the adapter for canon lens.

Thanks!

Bro ricleo is our Canon expert here adapting them to his A7R and A7... U can also PM him if u r urgent in getting some answers... Gd luck on yr lens hunt...

Thank for you the reply! Appreciate it. :)

Hahah trying my luck. Well I want the lux 35mm but way out of my range for now. I have the metabones v3. Got it free when I purchase the A7.

I'm thinking about the 35mm f2 IS USM or the 50mm f1.4 but that's without the IS and I don't mind a MF lens. Wanna learn it as well.

Is the IS working when attached to A7 via the adapter?

Also what are you guys using to fulfil the need of wide angle lens? SEL1018 ? Or something else? Its kinda pricey for the SEL1018 that is.

Could somebody please test this on their A7/R?

Set your camera on Aperture priority. Select F/11 or higher (e.g., F/13, F/16, etc.).
Set autofocus to AF-C.

If I half-press my shutter to acquire focus, the screen indicator is steadily green (which means focus is OK), but the view of the screen wobbles forward and backward AS IF the camera is having trouble determining focus.

Are you having the same result?

All cameras in af-c does that. It's continually acquiring focus. Take the shot and it will be fine (assuming all your fundamentals are right)

This doesn't happen though when the aperture is F/8 and below (e.g., F/7.1, F/6.3, and so on), which is why I thought it's somehow weird it happens for smaller apertures.

It does for mine. You can try again on other subjects. In any case, it's working fine.

I need faster focussing for my A7 to take photos my my baby kid. Will the focussing speed, by paring it with the LA-EA4 with the A mount Zeiss 50mm f1.4, be fast enough? I don't plan to take photos of him running around He tends to sway around while sitting upright and that makes it tough for the FE55 to focus.

Hi,

Any of you guys have tried adapted lenses such as voigtlander 15mm and 12mm on a7r?
Was thinking of getting a wide lens as sony is now lacking on FE mount.

Care to share your thoughts? Can also share what adaptor you are using?

Thanks!

Definitely have magenta cast issues on A7/Rs... just the severity of it... Rumours that A7s handles this much better with the UWA RF lenses... Anybody can confirm this?

can only tell when we get to play with it handson!

anyone have legacy UWA to try for coming monday A7s preview organized by sony?

the future curved sensor will help with the UWA legacy lenses even more

I read that curved sensors may not help as most lenses are designed for a flat focal plane. From what I gather, a curved sensor will help with new lens designs as the complexity of producing lenses that can focus onto a flat surface can now be bypassed.

Do you guys have any recommended store for getting cheap FD lens in Japan? Either Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto ? I'm heading to Japan soon and if I can find a nice and cheap one then I wouldn't mind at all!

Alps-do and Lemon Camera in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Both are hard to find but they do have many gems in almost excellent condition. And really good prices too.

Lemon-sha is in Ginza, there is a well hidden store in Shinjuku behind a ABC shoe store called Shinjuku Camera, second floor, lots of nice second hand stuff, cash only though.

Fujiya in Nakano also good for junk items, depends on your luck though. I found a 50mm f/1.4 Takumar S.M.C. for $20 a few years back.

They have one hidden on the 3rd floor of a building near MAP Camera
