Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

Hi pinholecam

Nice macro but somehow I feel there are some colour noise on those pictures you shared. Could be my phone screen though.

Anyhow Thanks all for advice.

There may be noise, but I don't think there is color noise. :)

Anyway, on a small sensor camera, you get the pseudo magnification 4-5x from 1:1 on a FF camera.
So to even get to that on an A7, you'd have to crop off about 80% of the 1:1 shot.
The result will be different even then, cause it will then be nearer to pixel level (revealing any flaws in technique and pixels of the sensor).
Also the remaining resolution of the photo will be smaller (since it was cropped)

Look at the results that folks in the macro section can achieve with small sensor cameras for reference.
Need not be Q, can be LX5, etc.

yeah true bro I like the m4/3 for macro as it gives me more magnification than APS_C or FF using the same marco lens. With that I almost don't need to crop my photos taken by smaller sensor so the plus side of it you get high pixel means more details than e.g. 24MP FF and you crop it near 100% to achieve 1-1 if you do that as you mentioned you are almost doing pixel peeping...

PS. I don't have m4/3 bodies anymore hehehe last time I have EP3 and NEX7 so I was able to use them both on macro using the same lens

good info bro thanks looks like Samyang or Rokinon 14mm f2.8 is always being considered by most folks who have used it.... hmmm maybe will give it a try

Yeah.
So far it seems to consistently turn up as an option.

I am only waiting to see if a smaller option will be available soon.

I would suggest the same for you too since you already have 19mm and 21mm.
endure a bit.... :)

BBB. Regret later.

Makes sense. Haha. Same same.

FE 55 is a good lens to have when you're lazy to MF lolz will wait for the street price to settle or maybe if my Japan trip would materialized lolz

I guess nobody saw this. DXOMark tested the 55FE and it almost matched the Otus! In fact, DXOMark said that it is the highest scoring autofocus lens they ever tested as Otus is MF.

Someone posted it I think in one of the threads here... yeah very good result for FE 55 come to think the price diff between these two glass is huge

The actual revolution is not the A7/A7r series but the FE lenses. Never in the history of photography have lenses that resolve 36MP been relatively affordable (The USD4K for the Otus is *not affordable* except to a pro). It's clear that the A7/A7r are not perfect cameras. The shutter is loud, some people have ergonomic issues, wide angle adapted lenses have blurry coloured corners and it's hard to get a sharp shot on the FE55/A7r at under 1/250s. But the FE mount cameras will improve over time and I'm sure that the next FE camera release will have a silent electronic shutter and 5-axis stabilisation. FE lenses are therefore an excellent investment for the future. I fully expect to sell my A7r within the next 2 years for the next FE camera especially if it has 5-axis stabilisation, but I should keep the FE lenses for many years to come. With 35mm, 55mm and 90mm AF lenses (the last one being a Contax G90) and a CV15 for B&W, the kit is fine for general purpose shooting. For macro an ultra telephoto, the LA-EA4 allows me to shoot stabilised macro (with a Sigma lens) and light birding (70-400G)but I'll need a monopod/tripod and carry some weight. I am thinking of selling off all my other lenses as they can't resolve 36MP and while I like them, they don't fit well into the future...
