Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

Depend on what you need, if you need fast focusing then A6000 your choice

Thank you for the pointer. I need fast focusing too.
I will stick with A6000 with SEL18200LE and SEL1670Z.

Apology if this question had been raised on this thread before. At first, I was thinking of A6000 with a zoom len for traveling, however, currently A7 with $200 rebate, I was thinking to try out a full frame camera with 2870 kit len, for traveling (but sacrifice on the longer zoom area) getting the full frame advantage or should get a A7 with SEL18200LE len, I think will end up with a cropped picture. Any advice welcome.
A7 and SEL18200LE seems like a legendary combo.

My A7R was on remote (in camera) n I walk towards it with my A850. Then I face the back of my A850 towards the A7R, the A850 fires off a few shoots. Then stopped, I try again, nothing happens. Strange.

thanks to bro ricleo for the Aki Asahi tip, i decided to buy the cover to make a ninja out of my cam too.

I bought adhesive backed leatherette and cut to fit the A7. you can get pre-cut versions from aki asahi.

I prefer to cover it with leatherette protection rather than using the Gariz (or other) case. Makes my cam inconspicuous too when traveling. I really hate that glaring Sony logo in front, a thief magnet.

It's easily removable too, in case I need to remove it in the future.

What happened to your camera? :O

But I read somewhere that for smooth surfaces for sony a7r and Fuji XT-1, it's is prone to stick to the gaffer?

I want to hide mine also. Haha

Yes, but they installed playmemories home to laptop, still couldn't access to wi-fi.
Before upgrade firmware u able to use smart remote such as AF, APERTURE and SHUTTER control, after upgraded all gone. Instead of improving going
backwards. LOUSY firmware. Unless if you know, again update the apps. So much HAZZLE!!! Not direct to firmware.
Sony customer service asked me go to 313 they able to assist me on wi-fi to laptop but must go through router.
I used Canon 5DIII with WFT, yes must go through router. Hopefully they can manage it.

I would avoid gaffer tape if i were you. The a7/a7r paint seems a little on the soft side and paint might come out along with the tape after a while if it sticks on real good...I've consulted ricleo about this previously and he recommended against gaffer too. I've experienced paint jobs of certain gadgets coming off along with stickers/tape after long periods of time during removal...

yes I would avoid gaffer tape as the adhesive is really strong and may/will end up damaging the paint work.

recommend use of better quality vinyl car decals with 3m/similar adhesives that are easy to remove with some heat from a hair dryer for example.

I use these vinyl car decals as a base for the leather to be stuck on. so far I have removed/replaced leatherettes with no problem on the A7 paint job.

For Aki-Asahi coverings, just carefully wet the edges a little bit and it will come off easily. Of course taking care not to apply too much water so as to leak into the camera body crevices.

I thought the A7 series is sealed? ;)

Yes but still as a precaution, especially near the flaps for usb/hdmi/mic connectors water can still seep in if not closed tight enough.

by the way, anyone who feels the EVF eye sensor is too sensitive, can decrease the switching sensitivity/distance by sticking a piece of black tape to cover 1/3 of the right side of the sensor. this will bring down the EVF sensitivity to about 4-5cm, and less likely to trigger the EVF accidentally.

Ok. I got car decal. But no guts to try it. Haha.

Good idea on the evf!

additional tip on the black tape trick. cover more if you want it to be even less sensitive, some trial and error shows if you cover more than 1/2 the sensor, it will no longer be sensitive and EVF will not be triggered.

inspiration from here the EM5 below.
