Official Sony A7 or A7r discussion thread (Season II)

I was hopeful after reading this review but on another review I have read somewhere, there is a magenta cast on the edges... It was on my buy list until I saw those samples...

As long as its a symmetrical designed lens. It will color cast to a certain degree depending on d lens model. Haha. Wait for FE UWA or use d modded sigma 19 method la.

How bad its the sensor reflection issue affecting everyone?

I am currently doing more real use trials on it.

Don't want to book myself for a photo tour and end up getting serious use issues w/o a backup.
My criteria is pretty loose.
So long as it does not render a shot bad or uncorrectable in post (say 5mins of cloning).

This one is pretty bad to me.

No issue.

A7+Canon 20/2.8
No filter
used between f8-f11.

I know this sort of 'problem found' post will often bring up very defensive remarks or even angry ones.
So if you have shot in similar situations, and found no problems, do share sample picts.
Even better, if anyone got a solution (eg. bracketed shots and clone out ), thats the best.
Lens no good?
Adapter issues (adapter is matt and rough inside) - may try gaffer tape to eliminate the possibility.
Avoid diffused light sources that shine into the lens? -might be not very agreeable with this combo.

I've shot here many times and I know that other lenses+camera I've used don't give this.

on an unrelated note, you shouldn't worry about the defensive/angry ones. :)

The main issue is when users report a problem but fail or somehow don't wish to substantiate with any photos or proof.

If one has done reasonable testing on a camera/lens and is able to provide evidence - then that is going to be a piece of news I will respect and pay attention to. #1 looks pretty bad , gonna do a lot of PP to fix if its even fixable.

actually this sensor reflection issue. i experienced it first hand in an olympus EPL-2 i owned years back. The A7 sensor does show signs of this, just to a slightly lesser degree, only saw it a handful of times in specific circumstances. The A7r seems to handle this better and i have yet to see any image impairing examples from my usage.

see below for some images shot previously on the a7. i note that this usually appears on uwa lenses. i was using the CV 15 4.5 then. Does these reflections render the shot useless? i think not though.

None are useless , honestly quite well composed :)
Thanks for the 4D number heh.

Weirdly enough , sometimes these reflections can give character to the image instead.

Hi bro, where is this place?

Nope not this review...

It was on another site, can't remember where... But the sample pictures were so bad, the reviewer gave up and shot only black and white with it...

The pictures on 3D Kraft aren't as bad as the ones I saw... Those were pretty horrendous...

Just too lazy to search for the website again... hehe...

Thanks a lot for the inputs and samples.
Really helpful to show that in my real use situations, its not too bad.

Hi bro, where is this place?

Its Lower Seletar.

Thanks.
Yeah, this sort of 'multi image' of the light source seems to be the most common artefact seen by me.
Generally, this type has not been too bad imo.

I was wondering, when I got a 24/36MP camera, I still go for jpeg when there are software for cRaw/Raw editing easily available in the market. So, review on jpeg not good this and that, really don't bother me much. Even time lapse, some will go for cRaw/Raw instead of jpeg. Anyway, it's my own view, heh heh! :D

In Changi airport T2 now

Hi all,

Just got myself the fantastic A7R, and I have a noob question.
Searched through the manual and Googled, can't seem to find any answer:

I plan to do long exposures with this camera, so figured I'll be using Bulb mode.
For Bulb mode, you start the exposure by pressing the shutter button, and stop the exposure by releasing.

Is there any way where you can start by pressing and releasing, then stop by pressing and releasing again?
Something like the Olympus OMD's Live mode? I can't imagine pressing down the button for >10 minutes.

Or is there a better way to do this?
