Then compare the D80 body to the D200, no comparison, the D80 is very small (smaller than the D70s) and still has those amateur settings that serious DSLR users won't probably use. Of course, if one wants a cute one, the D80 is it :)
actually there are 2 things i don't like about the D200

1. the weight, the D200 is heavy (or i am weak)
2. the power consumption, the D200 sucks juice like a camel after a long journey through the desert

after holding the D80 in my hands, I find that although the camera is physcally smaller, the ergonomics are just right, the weight of the camera + the battery grip will be just nice.

I do not know about the battery consumption, but from what i read it is supposed to have a new processing engin that reduces the power consumption.

Will have to wait for user feedback about this.
other than that i find the D80 a value for money camera

You forgot... and gives quality images for almost the same price.

Agreed. And that is why I am checking it out (although looks like I have to look further up for higher quality bodies), as I am not really a loyalist to a brand except for a few like my toothpaste I guess. I respect the quality the others produce ... the new Olympus e-330 was interesting with their spokesperson addressing the crowd, and the Olympus model was hot, wished I brought a camera :) Maybe back tomorrow, my 5-year old now wants her own computer too *ouch, empty pockets now*

Come to think of it, the new stuff all seem to be smaller this time - Canon 400D, D80, Olympus ... all about the same size. Must be a conspiracy somewhere :)

At any rate, I can live with a small one so long as it is of high quality. It sure would be easier to do this :

haha, yes easier to do stuff like this

Only thing I see with these new breed of smaller cameras is that they look fine with their small kit lenses, but I think will look and feel awkward with the bigger lenses. Can fit in smaller bags though.

cute mah, targetted at gals. :bsmilie:

The one thing holding me back from buying a Nikon D200 is the poor performance at high ISO compared to the Canon 30D. Some recent tests of the Nikon D80 vs Canon 400D seem to show that the performance gap between the brands has narrowed and its hard to tell which is truely better than the other. People ask why do you need to shoot at high ISO...well if you have a baby running around in the house you'll know why you need a fast lens and camera and high ISO to help! Or resort to flash photography but then the mood will be lost.
Anyway if ISO performance is the issue... don't you think the D80 is better than the D200?

Anyone have an idea how fast the AF is on these two... Nikon D80 & Canon 400D?

For now investment on bodies take a back seat for me .. maybe upgrade mah lenses if there's any ;)

One can get a D200 from Lord's at around $2600, but no CF card, and price is before GST if I remember. I was speaking to the Lord's salesman, though, and he said he can give the same offer - i.e. tripod, etc. :dunno:

price is $2550 after gst....

Did Nikon sell D80 body only in Singapore (beside D80 kit)?

Arto.

Yes they do ....

D200 package is $2988. The only thing I think is worth in the "$888" package is the bag, stand and CF card. The rest was not very exciting to me.

Ended up getting the D200 somewhere else and a VR18-200.

There were sitings of D80 in several shops today :bsmilie: The last place I went to was Lords to pickup an 18-200VR lens ($1250) for my D80 and they also had boxes of D80 promply display on the shelf :bsmilie: Wah, even jokingly scolded me for not buying from them.....

AP had D80 as well. I think most SG shop should have already.

Nikon D80 is SGD1799 body only. :)

Not surprising, if you check around the shops popular with clubsnap members (Lords, AP, MS, TK, CP, etc) today, you'll find that the market price is quite a bit lower than that
(which is good news for us :bsmilie: ).

The AF performance all depends on the lenses dude... I dun think you can come to any conclusive answers just like this, you'd need to try both of them out and get your answer yourself. PS, if you need fast lenses, go for the 1.4's
