Ubi Airspace also had AEW activity today... the G550 was buzzing around... its flies very quietly!

I think it is time to add some Russian/Chinese aircrafts ...

I call this MiGs alley as there are about 40 aircrafts all lined up ..

this is located inside a mountain & temperature is 18degC thru out. Aircrafts would probably come in one way & out on the other side of the mountain.

This is the first time seeing the G550 flying by. I agree that this plane flies very very quietly. And it was flying behind another aircraft which had a loud motor sound.

What was happening yesterday? The whole afternoon and night time, planes were flying by like they were having a race or something.

:)

the striped tiger is sweet! There was a lot of aircraft activity yesterday even till late at night. Could hear them lighting up their afterburners for take-off.

Can elaborate until what time it started and end; at least it gives all here an idea of the timeframe.

Issue about spotting military jets is purely by chance.

Great shots! When were these taken by the way, and they weren't all taken from the same spot right? If the first two went right over top of you then you're directly under the base turn leg and the third image of needs to be taken from abeam the downwind leg or GCA final.
Sorry for the late reply, have been rather busy as of late. The photos are indeed taken from the same location on the 15th of April 2010 as the F-15SG practices go around or missed approach procedures. ;)

As one might have noticed from the photos in the RSAF set of my Flickr album, it is not uncommon for aircrafts to turn onto a short final from the base leg just 1.8 Nm away from RWY 36 instead of 4 Nm to 8 Nm for a long final as routinely flown in the final approach segment of a Standard Terminal Arrival Route (STAR) into WSSS.

Since a rather large portion of the airspace above Tengah Class D Air Traffic Zone (ATZ) is declared restricted till an altitude of 30,000 ft, I reckon air traffic separation should not be an issue. In fact, it is really interesting to witness 2 F-16s conducting simultaneous side by side landing approaches into RWY 36 and the adjacent TWY of WSAT with a clearance of only a couple of meters from wing tip to wing tip. :)
Orion, what camera/lens/settings did you use? I don't like using AI-Servo even on faster lenses, my results are more consistent when not on AI Servo.

BTW, the 3rd shot seems oversharpened a bit. Did you crop a lot?
Though not at 100%, the photos are still heavily cropped.

I use a Canon EOS 50D along with an EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS. A majority of the photos are shot at f/8 in Av mode with spot metering since the IS allows hand holding down to a shuttle speed of 1/20 second at a focal length of 250mm in actual field conditions based on my personal experiences though I seldom allowed the shuttle speed to fall below 1/250 or 1/125 second (depending on the condition) and adjust the ISO accordingly while plane spotting.

I have no difficulty whatsoever with the AI Servo algorithm tracking a low contrast subject in low lighting condition and keeping it in focus. :)
They also own a pair of 747SPs, so these might be more regular sights at WSSS in the future.
I did saw a Las Vegas Sands B74S just the other day. ;)

I just found out that actually the PW's unique whistling noise is not of the air-intake but of the CENC or otherwise known as the convergent exhaust nozzle control.

read forum posts here http://www.f-16.net/f-16_forum_viewtopic-t-9441.html for a better explanation and check out this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcFWP_TvNjM

Approximately 50 secs into the video you see the Viper power down and back up with the super sweet whistling noise to the activation of the turkey feathers. :D
I hazard a guess that the jet blast danger zone from the Norwegian F-16A in the video should be approximately 100 to 150 meters?

I wonder if the engine has sufficient power to start ripping off the tarmac like how a stationary General Electric GE90 or Rolls-Royce Trent 800 on takeoff thrust would? :dunno:
So to keep things simple, we can only give clues to share. We won't know among us CSs whether they are security personnel monitoring the forum seriously. :)
The AP and MSD are a great fan of this thread and should be watching this thread closely like a leopard waiting to pounce on its prey, no reason to stop contributing photos though. ;)

Just curious, AP is which entity ? I only heard about AFI during my FOD clearing outings previously. The more reason all of us are careful of what we should post here and we hope they can appreciate the simplicity of plane spotting.;)

There's a major air exercise going on involving several countries.
Great time to plane spot.

Is this all approach at WSSS 02L RWY? are you shooting near the changi industrial park open field?

I am referring to the Airport Police Division though areas like Changi Business Park (CBP) actually falls under the jurisdiction and prevail of the Bedok Police Division if I am not mistaken. ;)

Well, while it is illegal to take pictures _inside_ a prohibited place (without a permit), there nothing that prohibits taking pictures _outside_ a prohibited place unless it is "is calculated to be or might be or is intended to be directly or indirectly useful to a foreign Power or to an enemy"

Of course, just because you can't be fined or jailed for planespotting, that doesn't mean that you won't get harassed till you till you just give up.

I have to say that Singapore is a lot like that story about an animal that gets an electric shock every time it touches a fence when it is young, and then long after the fence is taken down, it still never escapes because it has been conditioned to never stray more than 2m from its kennel.

In fairness though, property owners would also get upset if too many "stalkers" with telephoto lenses start showing up in their buildings, so there are other good reasons to be careful.

I guess we should all do it in moderation. Otherwise all of us wont have the opportunity to get a good spot for plane spotting.

Well we just have to act responsibilty and not to be too zealous to get one into trouble especailly straying into restricted areas. Plane spotting in Singapore is restrictive enough and all it takes is a few yahoos and cowboys to kill this hobby

my humble 2 censt

cheers
