Official Plane Spotting Thread II

Though I work with planes on almost a daily basis, I never really had a chance to actually take photographs of them courtesy of a certain Andrew Gerard. So here is my APAD (A Plane A Day) project, a compilation of aviation photographs consolidated over the past months.

Comments and critiques are welcome.

Those are some nice photos of big birds :) I am curious what lens did you use to capture those?

Nice shots Orion.

I found this shot from last year while I was cleaning up the HDD. I decided to keep it for the cloud formation in the background :D

Hi Ratman,

Those birds are captured with my Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS kit lens. Whilst it is definitely not L lens calibre, the image quality is stil pretty decent.

Thank you, Skypacker. :)

I wondered If I had yet laid my hands on that ANA B763. :bsmilie:

Continuation...

These business jets are a fairly common visitor to WSSS and can often be found parked at the Static Aircraft Display Area (SADA) of the former Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC).

I do some work for Air Mauritius. Here's the shot that got me the job

AirMauritiusAirbusSunset.jpg

That was shot on the tarmac as they were testing the engines. I touched out the landing gear and put it into a sunset that I had taken in 1995

Here's one that I shot last month froim a helicopter 300 feet above the ground. Airbus takeoffs happen once a day there so I had to get it right

TakeOff-340-CU_021R.jpg

Shot with an EOS 1 DS Mk III with the 70-200 II IS USM at 1500/sec. The blur was added in pp.

Sweet! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Must had been an experience unless you does aerial photography on a regular basis.

Thank you. That week was pretty good. :-)
I spent about five hours in the chopper doing all sorts of aerial work around the island, shooting stills and video.

The A380 that you had captured seems to be out of focus, you might want to switch your focusing mode to AI servo and stop down the aperture to between f/8 to f/11.

My two cents worth of advice. :)

Haha, the actual difference in sharpness or rather the lack of it is rather apparent in a side by side comparison of photos cropped at 100% taken by higher end lenses such as the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM.

thanks bro!
