Hmm, what promotional goodies did you get? If they included a drybox, memory card, tripod, camera bag... S$850 is not a bad price for me.

By the way, can anyone please point me to the direction of the list of recommended shops? I would like to call them for a quote of sorts. Thanks!

Hi all, i am having a headache on whether should i get the D3100 or D7000. Well.. i am a newbie and obviously the D3100 would fit my budget better as compared to the D7000.

My requirements for a DSLR are pretty simple (for now ;p). I basically like to deal with ambient/natural light as i feel that flashes will tend to be very harsh on the subject if not used properly. Hence the ISO must be able to go up to as high as possible while the CMOS being able to keep up and ensure that the pictures do not turn too grainy at high ISO levels.

That is... basically it :D

As quoted by other guys here, D7000 has a good high ISO performance for DX class.
If no issue with budget, you should go to D7000.

780 is a very good price if its not a grey (non local Nikon warranty coverage) set. The vitacom is a big no no for me though and i suspect its very much overpriced... but if you are satisfied with it then its fine, no point losing sleep over it.

Anyway, enjoy your new cam!

Yeah it is a bit slow but compensated by being small and light. I seldom use it though and tend to use more of the kit lens.

Side track a bit for your information, the 105VR on my D700 focuses fast enough for general street use if I limit the focus from 0.5m to infinity (I think that's the range for the limit focus switch) but on the D3100 is quite a challenge as focus is ironically slow too.

The 35mm DX is fast enough on a D3100 but everything is slow if you are focusing using LV.

You have to pay double to get the D7000. Photography is about decisions on what compromises to take, especially when you are a budget shooter. You can mitigate the need for high iso with faster lens like the 35mm dx. The D3100 is able to shoot at 3200 iso with acceptable grain. But lately I have been shooting in raw at 2 stops less at lower iso and lifting back the shadows for lower grain.

Hi, I am considering to buy D3100, but the salesman said D3100 focusing is slow.

Now that this is mentioned in this forum, I would like to ascertain if it is really the case, or it is a matter of disabling LV per tanjakn?

Thanks all

Can someone tell me where I can purchase a D3100 with a reasonable price.
And what lens should I get with it.

This is the first DSLR i going to purchase hence I need some help here.
Thanks you
