Real scary, esp buddha in pic #3 .... colors so real, image so sharp, can almost can "feel" the textures. Wonder whats the difference in IQ compared to the D7000.

Testing the IQ using F11, Base ISO 100...
Good?

i wouldn't go that far to say pointless, but 35mm f1.8 would be ideal choice. ( u can choose to practice manual focus in 35mm if u want to , as it has both auto and manual ... and u can override autofcous which is a nice touch. :) )
extract from ken rockwell blog
"The advantage of this new 35mm f/1.8 is that it autofocuses on the D40, D40X and D60, and that it allows instant manual-focus override simply by grabbing the focus ring."
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/35mm-f18.htm

if u shoot still subject , manual focusing won't be a problem.
but imagine, u r shooting ppl walking / street photos and trying manual focusing would be quiet challenging.

but there are times you find that manual focusing has some advantages
try this link

i wish nikkon has 50 1.8 af-s dx .... :)

thanks for the reply.
many more to learn :)

Execellent. The window above & trees/driveway below all both sharp & I can almost "feel" the metallic texture of the window though its not in absolute sharp focus. Relatively cheap & yet awesome camera that betters many. Enjoy.

@Badblade

thanks for the comment

I used the tripod that came with the nikon promo quality not so good but at least stable no budget yet to buy new one.....

Hi need some advice for some "on the go" lenses. Am thinking of getting an 18-200mm lenses but nikon version abit out of budget. Anyone tried a sigma, tamron or tokina (nikon mount) version of this lens on a d3100? Any good? Wats the budget like? Prefably with built in motor.. Thanks in advance..

I'm using the D3100 for 1 month or so now. It's generally a good camera but somehow I find that the focusing is not that "zun"? There are many times the subject is not sharp sharp. It looks fine from the display but when I download I realise that it's not that sharp. It happens to both the kit lens and the 35mm prime lens.

Sometimes after I d/l the pictures I'll check "focus point" using NX2 and it's always "off" my subject. I've even tried "pointing" the centre dot onto the subject, half press to focus, before framing the shot. But that doesn't seemed to help. Eventually the focus point is still in the middle.

:dunno:

Currently I'm also considering a zoom lens that don't cost a bomb. I'm thinking either a 55-200mm or the 18-105mm. But I don't know which to choose. Any suggestions? I want the zoom lens mainly to take my kids when they have school performance, maybe some landscape shots when we are holidaying etc. And since I'll def bring the 35mm (our fav) would it be better that I "sacrifice" some distance buy buying the 18-105mm such that we only carry 2 lens at any one time or buy the 55-200mm for max zoom but I'll have to bring out 3 lens.

It seems your len have back/front focus problem. Get them tuned up...
I will suggest 11-16mm tokina if you are serious into landscape and taking pic in low light.

Ok, that's an awesome deal!! May I know which shop is offering at this price?? I'm really eager to buy, but hesitant cuz I'm still looking for the lowest and most worth-it price available...

I'm currently using the Tamron 17-50mm with the D3100. So far quite good. I suggest you get the Nikon, perhaps 2nd hand. I've tried the sigma and tamron 18-200mm b4. But the Nikon is the best. :)

Bro, btwn sigma and tamron which is better? a second hand nikon that range could easily cost abt $600++ (also hard to get someone to sell me that price) and a sigma and tamron will cost average of $400++..
