OFFICIAL CANON EOS100D Discussion

Advantage of the EOS M is that it can actually fit in my pocket. The best camera is the camera you carry with you.

Compact Camera Meter

I suppose the M with the native 22mm lens is pocketable. I'm not looking for a pocketable camera though, just something smaller. Planning to pair it with EF lenses. 100D or maybe the 70D fits the bill. Thanks for the link.

Just obtained the quotes by calling to respective photohouse:

Canon 100D Body Only (Jul 12)

MSColor - S$720 w/GST, Cash; CC + 2%
Cathay Photo - S$760 w/GST, cash/CC
Alan Photo - S$ 675 w/o GST, Cash, CC + 2%

I think I will go for MSColor as their price is the lowest, and their good reputation (and lazy to call up other houses :bsmilie: )

Bought today from Harvey Norman. RRP $999. I ask if willing to match Sim Lim prices. They said lowest is $899. Includes 8 GB Class 6 sd card, EOS 600d User Guide which they are using to show off 14 EF lenses (the manual has many useful hints on how to compose and use standard dslr functions so it's useful regardless of which model you get) and a EOS digital camera bag which the lady said was priced at $48 because it's a genuine Canon product, and you have 2 months to book in for a Canon product use course. When I asked, she upgraded my sd card from class 6 to class 10, still 8gb though. Nice to have. I decided to get it as a spur of the moment purchase. Charging battery. Can't believe how light it is. I'm looking forward to seeing how it handles as a travel dslr.

Since you already got it, no point mentioning if you've a gotten a good deal. Nevertheless it's a reasonable & good deal, except I'm not too sure abt the bag they gave? Is canon having some promotion now? I'm not sure whether the EOS100D qualifies, but if I'm not mistaken, you get the Crumpler bag for registering warranty online.

You also didn't mention if you got it together w the kit lens, but I'm assuming you did with the price you paid! (: Quite surprise HN was willing to lower in a bid to watch prices at Sim Lim too! (:

It's a good handy camera, definitely good for traveling if you dislike lugging around a huge camera! (: Decent performance, producing images better than most point&shoot cameras! Enjoy your new toy! (:

Yes it comes with 18-55mm stm kit lens. Has a white ring around the lens, and instead of red dot for lining up lens with body, it has white dot. I am very hopeful it will be a good travelling camera. If not, I will probably use my Pentax MX-1 which is in Japan being warranty repaired (software issue). I love my dlsr, but it's just over twice the weight and feels like a brick. Fingers crossed for the 100d being my new travel camera!

Hi, I got quote of 900 for eos100d free 8gb and bag. any idea if there will be better deal at coming it show?

It's for the set w the kit lens right? Then I believe that's the market rate for now!

As to wheat the IT Fair may offer, difficult to say? The price may drop and/or more freebies?

Don't think there'll be a price drop, likely more freebies as a bait

got mine for $880 (with 18-55mm STM lens) from Song Brothers 2nd floor at Funan.. just need to ask them for their best price. ;)

Maybe can get a good deal at IT fair this weekend..

very unlikely. Most u will get few more not so useful extra free gifts after paying the RRP.

does it come with warranty?

does it come with warranty?

Song Brothers doesn't deal in grey market items. The lens should come with warranty.

What kind of question is that anyway?

I'm about to go get this camera via the PPP route.
Discovered my ancient EOS 300D has become all sticky and disgusting to hold! Haha, had intended to let my son learn photography with that old faithful camera but I might as well trade it in now.
A bit torn between this and the new 70D. The geek in me wants all the whiz bang features of the 70D but I know at the end of the day I prefer to carry something small. Have been taking a NEX5N over a DSLR regularly for some time now but I don't have a UWA or proper ext flash for the NEX. The other shortcoming is the AF on the 5N can lead to missed shots though it is generally good enough >90% of the time.
Any issues you owners have found with the 100D? Thanks.

The EOS100D could be too small for your liking? But if you've been using the nex then I think it's fine?

So far no major issues, not significant enough for beginners and/or prosumers' use I guess? Do let me know if there're problems when using it should you know! (:

If not I think it's better you head down to Canon Showroom or shops to try the camera out! (:

the 100D is a nice travel camera. However, if you put the L lenses on, it becomes big again :) Other than that when I did a comparison between the 2 camera (100D and 700D), I find the 100D to be a better buy in terms of features.

The NEX is all metal and has a fat hand grip so it isn't bad to hold actually. Unless I mount the 18-200 in which case it becomes very front heavy. With the kit lens it's great though. My 5DMk2 seldom gets used except for impt events as it is too heavy for my old bones to carry when traveling- esp since I have to then bring 2-3 lenses with it; and an external flash. I noticed I was only bringing the NEX for trips during the past 2 years but wasn't always happy with the lens restrictions and AF(esp AF)- wishing it would focus as well as the EOS.
I have molested a 100D at Courts before. It is a bit on the small side but acceptable even though some of the rear buttons actually are under my hand when I hold it. It's the 70D which is distracting me! :)

Plan to get the 18-55 kit. Travel with that and my old 10-22 EF-S and 35f2.0 EF.

Not much diff between 5D2 and 70D.... if you find the 5D2 weight troubling, then don't get the 70D.
