OFFICIAL CANON EOS100D Discussion

Thanks. I wasn't referring to the LCD screen though.

Yes, the focusing screen inside the viewfinder. Someone commented in dpreview forum that there the 100D doesn't even have one, dunno whether correct or not.

What do you mean? Do you mean you cannot "focus" the lens through the view finder??

This link might make things clearer.

"The primary benefit of using something other than the
standard screen is that an accessory screen may be
better suited for use with manual focus or wide aperture
lenses or may provide framing aids that are useful for
macro, microscopic, copy, or architectural photography."

After reading it I've also answered my own question...xxxD series cameras do not have interchangeable focusing screens.

Oh! Never read of such technical stuff. What's the purpose(s) for the interchangeable screen?

I'm am not sure why the document excludes the xxxD series but there are focusing screens for them. I own one for my 550D. But a quick search didn't reveal anything for 100D's case.

Not sure it has multiple exposure function added to this mini DSLR?
Didn't find any review on this. I miss it for so long after I go into digital.
Nikon have it on the entry level and I brought one to try out. But sold it due to operating function and manual lens can only use M mode.

I played with it at Canon Vivo City yesterday and I liked it lot. I will probably get it within the next 1-2 weeks. If anyone has bought it, do let me know what sort of price did you pay and what are the freebies that come with it?

I would like to get an external flash unit as well. I noted in the forum that people have been talking about nissin and Yongnuo. What will be an ideal model to match this camera? Or will it be better to get a canon flash?

I had a chance to briefly play with the 100D at Click! last week. It is small (petite to be exact) and it is not extremely uncomfortable in large palms. AF is fast and good enough, and handling is generally smooth. The plasticky body doesn't quite bother me much because it is meant to be light and cheap afterall. I didn't have chance to evaluate the ISO, so I'm keen to know how others evaluate this in greater detail but knowing Canon, I'm sure it won't fair too badly up to ISO1600.

My main objective of considering the 100D is as a backup camera to my fullframe DSLR and the idea of interchangeable lens suits me really well for travel when I need to shoot street shots with a more discrete camera, but not willing to use a P&S. The other thing is because my younger daughter age 6 is pretty good at shooting so letting her shoot a 100D is much "safer" than she holding a gigantic FF DSLR.

$750 for the body is more or less right...could be cheaper if pay by cash ;)

I've gotten it! Got a good price from john316 in Funan. Comes with the canon eos bag & 8gb memory card. With the 18-55, it's $910.

Great!!! I will check it out at John316.

Are there any shops selling the body only? Btw, TK has a better offer for the kit set.

Very compact and light. May get one of these to play around with. Too bad it is not bundled with the 18-135mm STM (which is one lens I wanna try out).

You can always cash in on your 18-55 stm kit lens and purchase the 18-135 separately! Hahaha!

I just bought the 100D. I am looking for small external flash for the camera. I think it looks funny with those big flash on top since the body of 100D is quite small.

What would you guys recommend?

I've got one of these to use with my SX20IS and 5Dmk2 when I just need fill in flash
Canon 270EX
He reccommends the old 220EX if you can find one...

How often will you be using the flash? I know it looks weird having something too big over the camera, but since I've a 600EX, I'll probably use it w the 100D. However, if you currently do not own any, how abt the 430EX? So that in case you upgrade to a newer (bigger) body, it still works reasonably well.

Not saying the smaller flashes aren't good, ur I'm referring to the "light coverage".
