Has anyone paired your 6D with a third party uwa zoom lens and if so, what are your thoughts?

6D AF is nowhere close to 5D3: consistency is poor with 50 f/1.4 lens wide-open and peripheral points only sensitive to specific orientation (depending on landscape/portrait mode). But consistency is good with 24-105 f/4 and 70-200 f/4 IS. Much better than 7D.

Basically, that means 6D has problem with pin point accurate focus. When using the 50 f1.4 lens, the depth of field is very very very thin (at most 1 cm) as compared to the 24-105 f/4 and 70-200 f/4 IS lens where the depth is several cm. With a wider depth of field range, the camera's accuracy doesn't nave to be pin point precise, which is why the consistency of the f4 lenses focus is good.

Thats the similar issue with 5d2, 5d2 also struggles with providing consistently accurate focusing with wide apeture eg. F1.2 lenses.

But guess, u get wat u paid for, though the sensor is good, something else "must suffer", which in most cases its the focusing accuracy.... 5d3 is >$1k more expensive.

Enjoying my new 6D on the right and 60D on the left .... for all my shoots ....;)

Out of curiosity, if that is the case then how would the 6d fare when using it with a macro lens, such as the canon 100mm macro f2.8? Any one has tried with this combo?

Yes, that is correct. After AF micro-adjustment of +10 clicks for my 50 f/1.4 lens, I find that out of 20 shots, 9 are precise, 6 are front focused and 5 are rear focused. With the 5D3, 9 out of 10 shots are exact after AF micro-adjustment on 50 f/1.4 lens.

It should be fine. I've never had AF problems with 100 macro lens even in entry level Rebel cameras like the 350D, 400D and 450D.

Normally when shooting macro, it would be user error that causes the oof or inaccuracy in focusing rather than a camera/lens issue. This is because u will be able to see rather clearly in the viewfinder whether the place u focus is oof. This is different from shooting non macro, where if u aim at something for example 5 metres away using a mid lens such as 50mm, u cant really see clearly if the subject's eyes are in focus, or its actually focusing on the nose or ears instead... Its only when we zoom in the image then we know..

Hi, just a quick question; for those who are editing their photos taken with the 6D in windows 8, do u guys have any problems previewing the RAW photos from the folder ? I downloaded the latest camera codec from Microsoft but im still unable to preview the photos. I can only see the photos when I import them into Lightroom.
Is it because the latest microsoft codec pack is still unable to support RAW files from 6D, or just something that i missed out? Thanks for the help in advance

Windows 7 32bits can view RAW photos after install codec. Win 64 bits is not supported by the codec. I think it shld be same for Win 8 64 bits

Works fine on my notebook with Win 7 64.

which codec, can share with us?
I don't know anymore which version I installed last but I simply downloaded the Microsoft's latest Codec Pack for AMD64 and Windows is able to read the raw files.

Any Latest development or report on Canon EOS6D? Any news!

Does any one here know when are the new shipment for Canon EOS6D + 24-70mm f4 + macro lens IS USM package kits coming? I am looking to get one set for the coming Chinese Lunar New Year.
