OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 650D User Thread

Anyone has comment about the 18-135 STM? Is it a sharp lens wide open?

The 18-135 is not a bad lens but it is not known for its sharpness. That title goes to the EF-S 15-85 and EF-S 17-55.

650D does not allow me to preset the color temperature manually!

Thanks. I think I will go for EF-S 15-85 or EF-S 17-55.

Ya, these are quality lenses, but the results are worth it!

Lynn

Get neither lens if you intend to go full frame.

if u think like that, might as well buy full frame straight.. no need buy 650D.'

ef-s lenses were made with amateurs in mind.
with the ef-s 17-55 f2.8 (hidden L), goes to show Canon are not forgetting the amateurs photogs section.

Many pros use the 17-55 f/2.8 with the 7D... fast lens + fast camera = a great combination.

Agree...... 7D + 17-55 f/2.8 is a lethal combination..... errr..... anyone compare it with 60D + 17-55mm??? Is it just as "lethally fast"... ;)

rented the 17-55 once.. i was amazed by the lighting fast focusing.

anyone can guide me how to use the exposure lock in manual mode? the EOS 650D manual is not very clear about the use. i tried to follow but can't seem to achieve the results i want. Basically this is what i need. i'm trying to focus my subject on the left against bright backlight. so in order not to have my subject appear as a sillouette, how can i lock exposure so that i can properly expose my subject?

I thought manual mode is you have total control on the exposure? Why need to lock?

Fill flash.

Or use spot metering and make sure the circle is in the subject, then press the lock exposure button.

New 650D user here and newbie to dslr. Pls give pointers!

Newbie checking in. First DSLR. I picked it up as a late Christmas gift to myself while they were still on sale locally. Previously used a S5 IS so big upgrade. I have been experiencing with the manual mode and comparing shots to find out how settings effect the outcome. Lots to learn!!

Do have a question though, contemplating another lens already. One with more zoom to it for maybe birds and eventually the little guy if playing hockey or soccer in and outdoor shooting. What would be recommended for such events. Would a EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM be very good for such pictures or would I be further ahead to wait and spend some real money on an L lens.

I do understand there are alot of variables but opinions are valued!!

Thanks ahead of time!!

With fill flash: set aperture and shutter to properly expose background. Focus on your subject and press AE lock once, recompose and shoot.

No flash: AE lock no use in manual mode.

What if the subject i wana take is a building set against a bright sky? I was trying to shoot the MBS towers from Gardens by the bay against a bright sky. the result was that the towers were very dark
