Hi i've been using 650d for a year now and with the 18-55 kit lens I am looking for an upgrade. I am trying to find an all-in-one which I know is impossible to fill in for all but just to check what would be recommended?
As per zniper's post I am also looking at the 18-135 STM and also peeped at the tamron 70-300, which would be a better choice? I don't do video shooting btw. Thanks for the recommendations and advice beforehand pros!

I've had the 650D for about 7months. I bought the 18-135 kit. And I purchased a EF 50mm f1.8 and a Sigma 10-20mm EX DC HSM.

Sometimes I find that the sigma gives soft photos at times, but I find that ok for landscapes. It's a good buy for its performance and price at $660+ Brand new. Nice to use it for distorted portraits too. And at 20mm it performs well on a crop body giving the equivalent of around 30mm.

The 18-135 STM is sharp and nice to use. I use that as my main lens around town etc. sadly though the focussing is electronic, so the camera has to be turned on to focus. And rotating the focus ring doesn't directly focus the lens. Rotating activates an inner motor that then focuses the lens. So here is a little focus lag between rotating the ring and achieving focus. But I find the auto focus of the 650D pretty good. So the 18-135 does work well with the 650D. The lag is something I got used to. And I switch it to manual focus only when I'm shooting a landscape on a tripod.

My set up works pretty well :) though I am thinking of getting a new body as the 650 isn't very tough or rugged.

was looking at the tamron 24-70...then i heard sigma has a 24-70 f2.0 coming next oct:o

Actually many lenses had this issues. My Siggy 17-70mm faces it too. Anyway, a rubber band solve my problem. Anyway, that problem is called lens creep.
Even Canon 17-55 has the same problem...lol...period.

I'm newbie with DSLR too.:embrass:
Imho, for those looking to upgrade lens or even other optional items. First you can go for good used(second hand) stuffs, at least you don't have to spend a hefty sum. After trying out and you are good at handling the cam, you consider better stuffs later. So far, below are the stuffs I'm having:

1. 50mm f1.8(new)
2. 18-135mm kit(new)
3. 17-55mm f2.8(used)
4. 70-300mm USM(used)
5. Speedlite 430(new)
6. Speedlite 550(used)
7. Battery Grip(new)

Cheers.
