Official Canon EOS 60D User Thread Part II

Just got myself a 60D, upgrade from my beloved 450D. Woot~!

Bought from Parisilk, $1319 (Body only, with GST)
Freebies: 8GB card, camera bag, handbook, tripod (to be collected fr canon)

One question; what's the max ISO that 60D can go up to without too much noise? like for 450D, the highest I would go up to is ISO800. Anything higher = too much noise.

Hi Bro,

I was quoted 1320 by Parisilk East. anyway what type of camera bag were you given? Any photo to share?

Even though it's an online shop, u can still pick it up from their local office/shop/store. Test it till u like it before u pay. 2% off published price by cash pmt. :)

Hi Bro,

Is everything inside the box different from the one bought from local store with local set? Was thinking of buying from DDE but don't know whether it make sense to do so.

Normal ISO range is 100-6400, and if I'm not wrong, the "Hi ISO" mode (or whatever the name is) can go up to 12800.

Personally my upper limit is 3200 (I set my maximum auto ISO limit to 3200). I feel that the noise is too harsh at ISO 6400 and above.

Hi Bro,

You mean you getting it from DDE? Can i ask aren't you concern that its a grey set? I know DDE provide their shop warranty for a year but not too sure how it work? By the way, buying from DDE wouldn't come with all the freebies right?

Take note that it's just my personal preference. Of course if you can tahan the noise at ISO 6400 (and who knows, sometimes you just need it), then by all means go ahead. Don't worry, it won't produce char kway teow kind of pictures =)

Yap I just bought from DDE. They give shop warranty base on receipt. No freebies. Their set are ship from Japan so need international plug for the charger, they give the international plug Foc. 2% discount if paid by cash. I bought their 60D with 15-85 kit lens as I find their price to be very attractive.

Did u pay the 7%GST apart from their web price? Can I ask why did you choose 15-85 over the 17-55? Care to share your reason and view?

I paid 2033.40 Cash for EOS 60D, EF 15-85 and SD to CF card adapter. Price online does include GST.
I choose 15-85 as i wanted to use the EOS60D for traveling, pairing it with EF 10-22, 15-85 and 70-200 f4 IS. Its the lightest i can think of. I uses to bring my 5DMKII with 17-40, 24-70 and 70-200 f4 IS and its weight was killing me.
If you need any test shot of the 15-85 i can post some. To share with all CSer as i find this lens to be compact with great range and IS and USM does help a lot.

Hi Bro,

Thanks for the info. But will there be any issue with warranty later? This is something I'm not comfortable with.

From your set-up, it seems you're not really into lowlight photography? I actually started a thread asking for opinion between 15-85 n 17-55 cos I like the focal length of 15-85 but also like the f2.8. No doubt their IQ is comparable but I was thinking of getting the 17-55 until your this post that makes me wonder if I should really go for the f2.8 over the focal length which I like. Any comments?

I do have my low light kit such as 24mm f2.8 prime, 50mm f1.4 prime and 24-70 f2.8 Zoom. Lowlight isnt the worst scenario, there is a built in flash for 60D or some might say if cannot use flash? Then use prime lens then or higher ISO.
If u need the focal lenght but u dont have and thats it. Some will say crop your picture but i am not a person who like major cropping.
I went to Japan last year and i had only 17-40 and 50 prime with me on my 5D. I wanted to take this shot of a mini waterfall which is across the lake and my 50mm just isnt far enough. Lucky my bro was using 7D with 24-105 so i just swap to 24-105 to take the shot. Just a scenario to share.

But if you are taking picture for event such as wedding etc... the 17-55 f2.8 makes much more sense as its easier to work with f2.8 with flash as compare to 15-85.

Thanks alot for replying Bro.

For my case, I do have a 55-250 to tag with my 18-55. Its just that I like my general lens to be a little longer so I don't always have to swap lens on the go. But am trouble with low light situation cos I don't have prime and don't intend to own 1 for now. Getting a flash will helps with lowlight but definitely not in all situation right?

Oh so things are much clearer now as i know what you currently have. Hmmm i must say you have to find whats your need. There is no "one lens do all". Use what you have now or sell 18-55 to get 15-85 and a 24 f2.8 or 28 f1.8 or 35 f2 prime. All three prime lens give good IQ at a not so high price tag. :)

Hi Bro,

Yea..am using 600D paired with those 2 lens. I'll be getting a flash thats for sure. I'm also thinking of changing to 60D cos I find 600D small for my hand(tried the 60D n quite like it) but gotta sell my 600D b4 i can upgrade :(
I very much would like to get the 15-85 but am afraid that I'll regret it when face with a "I shd have got the 17-55 instead" situation cos once I get thing right I wouldn't be changing anything anytime soon so I need to make sure I get it right this time. Haven't think of prime at this moment maybe in the future ba.. :P

Hi bro, still remember me? Haha. Anyway, I wanted to get my 15-85 (decided on it) from DDE, as they offer a diamond extended warranty 3 years at $197, and it covers accidental damage, and if your camera kena water or sand, its also covered. So very attractive. But in the end decided against it cos I feel safer with local warranty.

Bro, at J316 the 15-85 is 1080, and the 17-55 is 1550 or around there. Why don't you get the 15-85 for the extra zoom range, and use the 1550-1080=$470 to maybe get a 2nd hand 50 1.4! :) Just my 2 cents worth.

Hi, you are right. Haha. I myself was shock also but I think Taiwan is fine. At least I tested it's working fine.
