Official Canon EOS 60D User Thread Part I

Hi everyone, I just got my canon 60D from one of the shops in funan. I love the camera, but did anyone else experience problems with the sd card slot spring? My sd card slot cannot be pressed in and it doesnt spring out at all, in the end, I have to pull out the sd card with my finger. Not sure if I will damage the sd card or not.

I was wondering if I should take the camera back to Canon CSC? :( Cos I read online that some users also experience the same problem, but the spring became ok after 20 days of usage.

mine had the same problem when it was brand new. the "problem" will be gone after using it for a while, don't worry about it =)

I got the same prob too, the shop even take out 2nd set, and still got this prob, but happen only when they try their promo SD card, my old SD kingston card bump out smoothly. After awhile the prob will be gone, no worry.

Hi conan86 & bettapro, thanks for your replies! I tried and My old class 4 sandisk card worked perfectly. It's only the bundled class 6 Kingston card and my newly purchased class 10 sandisk got problem. Hmm.. Maybe the card slot was designed for older sd cards and not the newer ones...

hi everyone, been playing around with my 18-135 kit lenses and faced a bit of an issue when taking close up shots due to the focal length, so i'm looking to get something to complement my lenses. probably to take casual gathering photos, food, as well as portrait shots.

any recommendations ma? some people recommended getting 50mm prime lens, which i saw were like $500+ for the f1.4
or should i get something else?

thanks in advance for any advice!

I think you have two issues here. The first is the problem of fitting everyone into the frame while taking a group/protrait shot. The easiest way to solve that issue is to buy an Ultra Wide Angle lens (UWA). Canon has one with a focal length of 10-22 and is considered one of the best. Sigma has no less than 4 offerings: (i) 8-16mm; (ii) 10-20mm f/4; (iii) 10-20 f/3.5; and (iv) Sigma 12-24. The first 3 of the Sigma offerings are considered very good for crop cameras. The fourth one is better for full frame. Lastly, Tokina also makes a very good UWA with a focal length of 11-16 f/2.8. Personally, I would seriously consider the Sigma 8-16mm which has the widest focal length and has gotten great reviews.

The second issue that I sense you having is the need to get close-up photos of food. The kind of lens that will solve this problem is called a macro lens. Canon and Sigma have several great lenses to help with this. One that I would highly recommend is the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens.

Just joined the club last night! Got mine at Parisilk for 1320 :)
I just LOVE the bokeh the 50mm f1.8 gives! Some of the reviews say it gives a pentagon when the lights are blurred but mine is just so round O.o

congratulations brudda =v=

it is pentagon only when stopped down, at 1.8 it will be onion ~w~

Onion?! Onions have that little pointy thing at the top!
The lights look so pretty I was taking completely out of focus shots just to look at them. Hopefully my eyesight doesn't die @.@

thanks raydio for the advice. will go down and check both of them out. so probably i would have to get macro and UWA ones.
now to check out my bank account balances. haha

Hi ahmad, can i know where you bought your 60D body and price? seem like stock are low for 60D

Same here just got it 2weeks ago and shop need to hold the stock for 1week as I'm busy and unable to pick up.
When I collect, they say no more stock coming, so I'm the lucky one. :)
Price is quite standard for the "usual" shops with the freebies. No need to compare, as limited stocks.
