OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 5D Mark III - User Thread - Part 5

anyone tried the new firmware yet? doesn't seem to offer much improvements to me as I don't really use live view mode...

Firmware 1.3.3 available for download http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/p..._mark_iii?WT.mc_id=C126149#DriversAndSoftware

1. Improves the AF controllability when shooting in Live View mode with a wide-angle lens (fixed focal length or zoom).
2. Corrects some incorrect indications on the “English” and “Russian” menu screens.

Not sure if I'll see any improvement in my macro lens... or maybe it's only for wide angle primes.

But the rumor about the firmware closing the magic lantern loophole is a downer..

Here is the first list of specs I've seen for the Canon 5D IV rumoured to be announced in August.

  • 24MP sensor – (CW2)
  • Dual Pixel CMOS AF III – (CW4)
  • New and more advanced AF system (compared to EOS 5D3) – (CW4)
  • 4k video – (CW4)
  • Anti-flickr technology (seen first on the 7D Mark II) – (CW4)
  • Improved video features – (CW5)
  • Crop mode (featured on the upcoming EOS 5Ds) – (CW3)
  • ISO 100-51200 (H1: 102400, H2: 204800 – (CW3)

Not much different than the 5D3. If the feature list remains true... this upgrade is incremental at best.

Will just stick to the 5D3 a no brainer for me ;)

Not much interesting.. If feature 36mp, maybe a good thing

Where is the maker of the new 24MP sensor?

Just wondering if any of you use the YN622C triggers with your 5D3. I cannot seem to use them anymore after updating my firmware to the 1.2.3 version. The camera cannot communicate with the trigger at all. The view finder does show the lightning sign but it doesn't fire. Can't launch the control external flash command.

I didn't have any issues when i was on the 1.2.1 firmware, so i'm inclined to think that the firmware update caused it.

Hi Silas,

I am on 1.2.3 and yn622c works fine. You can try resetting the yn622c by pressing all 3 buttons at the same time and hold on to them until the signal light become blinking red. I have a couple of time the trigger dun fire but the above tricks work.

Hope it helps

Thanks for your advice, I did a thorough testing of all my triggers and managed to identify 1 set which was having the issues. The remaining sets work fine and concluded that it was not the firmware update that caused it. Will try your method to reset it this evening and update if it works

Has the price of the Mark III gone down now that Mark IV is out?

There are several examples of used 5D Mk3 cameras available on the used market. Over the past year, prices have generally gone down by $500 to $600 dollars.

Exactly, u don't need a mark 4 to push the price of mark3 down...it has been going down gradually.

It makes no sense for a post each time saying or asking if the current model price must go down or will it go down since hv new model....there is no value in the question n besides, it is more an economic question than an equipment discussion.
