OFFICIAL: CANON EOS 5D Mark III - User Thread - Part 5

Perhaps you can try looking at B&S section. some are letting go at a good price. some even with warranty too. Both can find there and you can safe some money for other accessories. i bought all my lens and 5D3 there. if you are not sure what to check for, ask your friends or here for more guidance.

I prefer to have my equipment brand new. :-) yeah, thanks for the suggestions.

The mark I lens still can get for brand new? Or is it discontinued already.

The Type I model is discontinued. There may be some stores with old stock and you may be able to find a copy with luck.

Alternatively, the new Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC is priced much lower than the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 IS and has been receiving very good reviews.

A call or an e-mail is the best way to find out one way or another. You might just be lucky.

Hmm, any idea how much is it now? Thinking of getting 5d3 and 25-70 f2.8 L from cathay.

I suggest you get 5d3 kit 1 with 24-105mm f4. 5d3 the iso performance is very good is even with 24-105mm f4 you still can shoot
some decent shoots in low light.
The bundle you're looking for is what I thought of at first but later I just stick to kit 1 as not only cost less than the bundle.
I get a longer focal length and IS.
How much I brought my 5d3, I cannot say sorry as I could only share with you that one shop offer me a very good pricing
that fits my budget.

Thanks for your suggestion. I am most likely going for the 2.8, sometime, I might just need the lens to have larger aperture. If I can't afford the canon L MK II, I might just go for Tamron.

CP quoted 4059
Harvey Norman 4138.
Most likely going to CP

My cam hang on me, then I see red storage light on. Powered off and on manually all back to normal again. This happens twice with minutes.
Possible cause?
I suspect something to do with my CF card, did a full format. So far so good.

Wow, that is scary! Hopefully the format was a permanent solution for you. Keep us updated of any new developments. No news will mean good news!

Yes, really scary at that moment. One click on shutter than suddenly all freeze. My first thing in mind is that I don't lose existing images in the card. Luckily all intact, except the last image I think.
Maybe the camera is trying to do a chkdsk scanning just like when we first insert a brand new CF card.

Lexar Professional UDMA6

Luckily I didn't get this card and I purchase Sanddisk CF Extreme pro 32GB which cost me about $33X.
After I brought this card, what do you know?
Sandisk announce a newer version of the CF card. :(
Anyway won't be changing to a new card so soon, probably nearer to my overseas trip later this
year than I will get the 128GB cf.
Btw do you guys format your cards few weeks or so?
I do perform format once every few weeks before going out to shoot.

I do format my cards before every impt shoot.
If new card use, also has a habit to format in cam before taking any photos.

I format the CF card before every shoot. Just a practice I got used to doing.

I would seriously not recommend a Tamron if u are using 5d3. If one wants to save the dollar, at least go for 24-70 Mark 1.

My own 2 cents. No need to flame me.

Odd that you would suggest against it but did not produce any supportive points for that.

I think the Tamron is a good alternative. It is priced very attractively, the VC works effectively, and the lens optically competent.

Guys, speaking of memory size.
What's the total size of memory card you will carry during your overseas trip?
