Got a chance to play with the 5D3. Errr.... not use to the VF points.... like very dim... cannot see the focus point. It will light up but too fast, old man cannot catch up. End up don't know where is the focus point... any setting to make it blighter?

Hi, did anyone have battery drain problem in your 5DM3? i had fully charge my battery and put it on. power off all the time and not in standby mode. 1/2 a day later, it was drain flat. notice it is a bit warm (not hot) at the battery area. is it a hardware problem?? don't have this problem before. any advise? tks.
and by the way, i'm using the sigma 35mm f1.4 lens. is there anything to do with this lens??

I remember seeing a similar discussion.

The setting for the "light-up" red AF confirmation is set to Auto in default - which means it will only light up in dim lights and under normal good lighting, it will not show up. The AF focus confirmation is at the bottom right corner where you see a round yellow dot to confirm in focus.

You can set the red "light-up" confirmation to be "ON" all the time instead of "Auto". So it will light up even if it is daylight.

This is not normal.

I do not have the Sigma 35 f/1.4... the only Sigma lens that I own is a 12-24 and I've never had a problem with battery discharge as you've described. Batteries should not drain that fast especially when not in use. If the camera is not turned on, the battery should last weeks if not months.

Do you have an original Canon battery or a 3rd party one?

I dont have that problem.. I used half day, always on.. Sometimes turn off.. Remain 1 or 2 bars.. That's weird.. Is it the battery problem?

I have the 3rd party battery (DSTE battery) and the original Canon. both seem to have this issue. recently i just notice this problem. previously there isn't. just wana know is it the camera issue or the battery?

If both batteries have this issue then I would assume that it may be a camera issue. Before you take it to CSC, try one more thing...

i) fully charge the Canon battery
ii) put the fully charged Canon battery into your 5D3 with the Sigma f/1.4 lens on the front.
iii) make sure that the camera is in the OFF position.
iv) Leave it overnight.
v) check the battery discharge in the morning.
vi) repeat all steps above except put a Canon lens on the front and leave overnight in the OFF position with battery fully charged
vii) check for battery discharge the next morning.

The above steps will determine whether it is the Sigma lens at fault. If the battery continues to be discharged after the 2nd night, take it to CSC for inspection.

vii) check for battery discharge the next morning.

The above steps will determine whether it is the Sigma lens at fault. If the battery continues to be discharged after the 2nd night, take it to CSC for inspection.

I have the latest Sigma 35 as well but using only original batteries. Sometimes left the switch to "ON" until it auto-switch off. No issue with battery life.

Mine is 5D Mark III.

Tamron 24-70 seems to have problem with 6D. OK so far with my 5D III. No battery drain issue even if kept on the body for few days.

I have no problem with my 5D3. My BG is with 1 Canon & 1 3rd party batteries..attached T24-70 or S35 batteries level is normal..

Yesterday i insert a fully charged orginal canon battery with the sigma lens and leave inside my cabinet. This morning, the lower portion on the body feel little bit warm anf battery level is down to significantly low. 20% left.
Now since i only have 1 orginal battery, i replace it with a 3rd party battery and use a canon 50mm lens to test again.

4hrs have passed and with my 50mm and 3rd party battery, the battery indicator indicate it is still 100% full. It show that the lens do have a problem. Bummer. Guys, do take note of this issue with sigma lens.

That's really too bad. I guess your next step is to take the lens Sigma. Hopefully they can do something about it quickly.

Before you bring the Sigma down to the SC you might want to try fully charging the original battery and popping it into the camera with the 50mm just to be absolutely sure the issue lies with the sigma lens and not the LP-E6. Problem is you are using 3rd party battery now to test and the reading may not be accurate.
