They sell. Some shops keep in their storeroom, a few pieces only, for customer who ask for it. Some will order from Canon for customers who asked for it too.

They generally do not carry them in store or carry in large quatities, but if you are keen to buy from them due to certain reasons, they can make the arrangement for you.

yes...i am tempted to get from those big stall for their in-house extended warranty.

Anyone tried claiming warranty from them before?

My honest advise - forget about in-house extended warranty...

The warranty is usually being managed by General Insurance companies. I CANNOT disclose much as it is related to my employment, but as someone who has information about such stuff, I would rather pay more for manufacturer's warranty, which means buy from Canon. :)

manufacturer only cover 1st year mah...but in-house warranty can covers up to 5 years?

not sure if the coverage include wear & tear...eg. shutter & flash hot shoe

You can buy Canon's own extended warranty when you register online :)

And about what you wonder - wear and tear is NEVER covered by any form of warranty and insurance lol..

Nothing speical about dealer's in-house warranty really. it essentially covers the same idea as manufacturer's warranty - manufacturer's defects. Albeit, you are allowing either insurance companies or some other parties to decide whether it's a defect or whether your claim is approved or not.

Compare to letting Canon, the expert and also, the manufacturer of your product to decide whether yours has a defect or not, which will you choose?

3rd party decides purley on business sense cos their in-house warranty is essentially, buying a corporate insurance. If they repair less, they pay-out less and earn more insurance premium.

For Canon, it's the same thing. However, they may not be as money-sensed as 3rd party. One thing is, they have already earned a sizable margin from their products already. And if you present them your product claiming it's defective, they'd would do more to defend their name and reputation. If your claim is legit, they are more likely to fix it and provide you a memorable service to retain your business and their brand image. Anyways, they earn MORE from you purchase of the product than what they earn from you purchasing warranties.

So tell me.. who is more likely to care about your Canon products and have more interests in protecting the Canon brand? ;)

wa..if i want to sell my canon 5d mark III now, can the warranty be transferred? and is it being tie to the person or the product itself? tks!

Those in-house warranty not too bad. Harvey Norman one was covered by Camera Hospital at Sunshine Plaza. A friend sent a 4.5 years+ camera to fix, and they honor the repair.

I think it's a little cheaper than Canon's extended warranty too.

product and warranty is linked to their database which has your particulars. so in a way is tied to person. But they don't really care as they will not ask you for IC when you send your product in for servicing. new owner just have to remember to update his/her HP number when sending in product for servicing, been there done that. it probably gets a bit complicated if old and new owner is of different gender.

noted bro. thanks.

oh...thanks for the update, long time never buy Canon products cos the last camera that i bought new was an EOS 10D back in 2003...managed to find the extended warranty cost here

anyway, service charge and parts at Canon is very reasonable, I changed the main PCB of my previous 1D for few hundreds only, cheaper than buying extended warranty.

For my current 1DsMKII, I only changed the hot-shoe due to wear & tear, otherwise this 7 years old work-horse never fail me so far

think I will give the extended warranty a miss as I have faith with Canon products since the D30 days. At first I thought it can cover wear & tear like flash hot-shoe and shutter :p

no la wait long long, especially warranties managed by 3rd parties. SURE REJECT you one if it's wear and tear.

Canon? IDK, I feel I may try my luck. In my earlier thread that I started sharing my latest experience at Canon Service Centre, I asked to fix the loose barrel and zoom ring of a 8 years old 24-70L with lens cleaning and express service. Original quote was $180 + $25 (express). In the end, the technician called me, say no need to replace barrel as thought, just tightening of collar screws and he will do cleaning. Charges? WAIVED. $0. This lens is obviously out of warranty.

Do you think if I were to ask a 3rd party warranty manager to do the above for me, I will get it FOC? No way.. :bsmilie:

It's actually not about it's free or not, expensive or not. I just feel that going to Canon directly is better, and they do have great service.

On a resale value sense - you have 2 same units of the same conditions, same SC etc, same asking price. One has 2 years extended warranty left with Canon, one have 2 years extended warranty left with Harvey/Courts/Best Denki. Which will you buy? The answer is kind of clear - majority would get the one with direct Canon warranty ;)

Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 is released, just updated it. Support 5D Mk3 RAW.

I know that but 7.1 is release candidate status while 6.7 was released via PS Update utilities.

anyone read the fine prints actually? they have the right to replace with something of same value if they do have stock what you bought.

Slight creaking sound detected near battery cover when holding camera with only one hand, coupled with a heavy glass 24-70.

This is not a new issue. I had the same issue with my 5d2 (more severe) and made a few visits to CSC to repair. However the rectifications lasted for a couple of weeks only and the same issue came again. IMO this could be due to the design/manufacturing faults with certain batches. I really appreciate the good service support by CSC for which they did not charge. I do see the issue in 5D3 but not to that extend and it is meagre. Initially this was very much annoying with 5d2, but over a period of time I learnt to live with it. You may approach CSC and they may add a kind of padding to tackle the creaking noise.

Nah, canon already has a fix for it, its called the bg-e11.

Jokes aside, i am not too bothered with it....just a rant :)

I was at SLS and just asked about prices. Alan is selling $4250 and Song bro selling $4200 for 1st batch cash local warranty.
