Ehh... That's quite a funny observation cos most of the owners here reported a marked improvement over the 5D2 especially the AF and you are the only one who reported otherwise. Those who own F1.2/1.4 lenses also reported a marked improvement in their shts in focus compared to the 5D2 also. :think: Mayhaps you gotten a lemon set?
There is a drastic improvement using wide-aperture primes.
If you’re just comparing 5D2 centre AF point to the cross points on the 5D3 you might not see a lot of difference, but if the comparison is Outer-AF points, then having a cross points on the outer AF makes a WORLD of difference.
1. Speed of focusing
2. Accuracy of focusing
3. No longer need to focus and recompose that much.
I’ve always felt on the 5D2 I’ve had an effectively 1 AF point system. Now i have an effectively 41 AF point system. Tell me that isn’t a world of difference in real-life shooting.
*I use only the 41 Cross points on the 5D3
