With BG E-11 hitting our stores soon, the Pixel Vertax is also being launched as well. Both grips are for the Mkiii. Just wondering any csers will purchase the Pixel one, or any other compatible brands as and when they launch.

The canon one is retailing at estimate 339 USD and the Pixel is likely at 110 USD.

Functions as claimed by Pixel is exactly the same, with the same weather proofing as the mkiii.

Thoughts?

I bought the pixel one from ebay...they should ship June 10...it won't be as good as the original but at almost 4x cheaper... I wont expect it to.

To ensure longevity of camera, which is a better way to transfer files from the CF/SD card? Remove cards from camera (risk wearing out the camera connector pins?) and use card reader? Or use the USB cable (and risk wearing out the camera USB connection)?

Option 3: Don't think so much.

battery really seems to drain alot faster with my 70-200 ii compared to other bodies, sounds like the sayings online are legit

all factors considered - chimping / IS / long servo

yup. battery drain for 5D3 is much faster than 5D2. in fact, in my 6D5N trip to Tokyo earlier, my 2 batteries in the battery grip lasted me without a single charge.. I don't think 5D3 can survive that! :bsmilie:

I shot a event with 70-200 for 7hours, 1k photos, left one last bar of battery..

Is that normal?

With IS on, yes, cos IS eats battery.

With a full charge battery I manage to get 600+ shots in Raw and 35mins of video at SIN 2012 not to mention with flashes for all the shots, overall I am still satify with the battery performances with the quality of the images. As for 1Ds II usually with a full charge I can get at least 2500 shots in Raw. But still there are pro and con, no video with 1Ds II. Anyway I am still happy to own a 5D III and I am loving it.

Just buy more spare batts and bring along lor…Already spend so much on the camera..be thankful Canon didn't decide to use a NEW battery…people will KPKB..Batteries are light and cheap to carry extra…

Yup, me too. Happy owner of 5D3 and her battery grip :bsmilie:

Yup, for long hours, I will bring the AA-battery magazine just in case my 2 LP-E6 dies out quickly. I've always have a block of AA batteries for such cases or to replace flash batteries.

Yeah I was very happy when Canon decided to use the same LP-E6 battery for the 5d3. That meant that I could use the same spare batts of my old 5d2 and 7d. And I could also share the batteries with my friend's 60D.

Hi friends, will using 3rd party battery damage the camera?

If you are gonna be spending that kind of money on a camera, why cheap out with the primary power source?

will be using the aa tray too for my event in msia this weekend as i'm not sure whether i'll have time to recharge, don't know when it'll drain out fast, can just buy aa batteries from kedai mama instantly =w=

nope, but some 3rd party batteries won't have chips, so the camera won;t be able to read things like it's recharge life

precisely. we won't know how fast the battery will run dry, not sure if have time to recharge or not. for prolonged period of use, my best friend is my blocks of AA batteries. instant change/re-charge. your only worry is probably if there's any mama shops etc to buy new blocks of batteries or not, should your supply totally run dry :bsmilie:

anybody else went for afa msia the past weekend?

spot a couple of mark 3s :)

Just notice that it doesn't support my non-L lens.
Firmware first or perform EOS utiltity lens update first ? or latest DPP first ... ?
Does firmware update overwrite the lens support for IN-body Peripheral Illumination/Chromatic Aberration/Distortion Correction database ?
