Will try my best.

After playing around with the camera, I don't see myself getting the BG-E11 because it has that multicontroller built in. For one, the 'Q' and set buttons are a tad far away. My thumb seems able to reach over over easily to touch them simulating my hand in the vertical grip's position but I'm used to turning over the camera (550D with grip) to change my settings anyway. There is word that the OEM makers are in process of making pocket friendly version so I'll probably wait for those.

but build wise, confirm lose to Canon.

When I was with my 5D2, I initially chosen 3rd party BG for the cheap price point. But really, it's no good if your set up is heavy. First, it doesn't give you a safe feel when you hold it vertically - a light cheap plastic grip holding a 2kg or so body + lens? Doesn't seem to be a good idea. Also, I've noticed that the screw isn't as sturdy or as good as Canon's - it feels really cheap and loose, and yes, the screw gets loose more easily than Canon's

The battery compartment door was kind of loosely fit too, sometimes when you hold it vertically, you can feel that the "door" is moving a little.

Eventually, I sold it off in less than a week and bought Canon's.

Point on the build since the Canon is made of magnesium alloy and it will have the same weather resistance as the body. Cheaping out and having almost 6k worth of camera gear falling due to a cheaper grip.

Good advice, dude. I'll heed it.

np bro, just that sometimes, the saying "you pay peanuts, you get monkeys" does apply. for this case, I would prefer to spend a little more to be safer than sorry.

Sorry to bump in, does anyone know where is there an available stock for the mark iii? I've went to sgcamerastore, John3:16 and tkphoto but all of them are sold out.

There are many others that you can ask. SLR Rev, Alan Photo, Cathay etc...

Not sure about how safe the US west coast will be. Been to Boston before wth my 60D and 17-55 then and walking about in day light is ok. Have to check where are the "bad" neighbourhoods and avoid those place at all cost! Probably backpack should be fine in the US cos unlike Europe which have a lot of petty theft (backpacks are one of their favourite), US probably have a lot more hard core robbery so it doesn't matter which type of bags you use.

I'm in the west coast (LA area). Generally safe so far. I've also been to some of the "less safe" areas too. Lots of police around too (catching vehicles for traffic violations--CA govt is broke, apparently).

Has anyone read Ken Rockwell's review of the Mk3…he seems to hate it pretty much and he seems to love the D800 even before he got it :)
He mentioned 2 things he didn't like, 1) he can't set the "SET" button to playback images instead of the play button 2) He can switch from auto focus points to single focus points with one button.

Clearly he hasn't read the manual before making his review because you can do BOTH and i am doing both with ease….
He also mentions it's not worth buying the 5D3 since it'e mot much better form the 5D2 and the focusing isn't great…
Somehow i do agree the D800 is going to be better than the 5D3 in terms of IQ but…i don't think the 5D3 is as bad as he says it is…he seems to really hate Canon..

I thought he's always known to be a Nikon fan? Not surprising that he was biased when he did the "review"...

I'm convinced of the superior noise performance. Applied noise reduction and sharpening to the photo, which was shot at ISO25600. The fact that I clean up the picture at a much lower NR reduction level in LR3 than ISO1600 on my 550D tells me a lot. Screenshot is zoomed in, by the way.

Concerts will be a breeze :D

What do you mean? Did you use the NR in camera and then further process with LR? I don't think so since LR doesn't support this camera yet..i also still waiting..it's just JPG for now…
Or is this a shot with and without NR in camera to compare?
Actually, although noise is reduced, so are details…the image on the right is less noisy but the details are also not there…although with your lenses..i don't see how you'll need ISO25600 hehe..

No luck with those either. Went there and all are out of stock. Sigh.

Yoz bro, you may try your luck at Parisilk. Call them before going down, as they have many branches...

Hehe, time to stop previewing :) you bought a good camera with a good metering system so trust it! haha..
Batt would be my least worry actually…at most buy 3rd party batteries..they're cheap and last 75% of the originals..Well, you bought the 5D3 because it's good..if you're not going to use it, you'll end up regretting not bringing it and taking great photos with it :) Can you live with regret? heheh

hahah ya need to get rid of the habit.

you can always buy batteries and sell them again..
but you can't buy back memories on a holiday.

unless you're visiting the same place frequently..

Given the lens choices, I think you might be happier with the 500D...plus the 55-250 has is...

thanks for the comments >.<

went to Cathay today, asked them about 5D3 stock. They said next batch could possibly come in 2 week's time. But given that there are still many on waiting list, I doubt walk-in customers will get it :bsmilie:

Just wanna read what's going on here :)

I was there earlier on today too. Apparently, the coming and available stock from all the shops are either reserved by someone or has already sold out. I had to wrote down my number and they'll contact if there's an extra stock coming by for me, which I could imagine the imaginary line am queueing from the people before me.

I think the imaginary line is pretty long then.. if 2nd batch is fully reserved. lol.

testing my new UWA on 5D3, on the block opposite mine:
