:bsmilie: did some read-up. Canon first introduced auto ISO on 40D. Heck I used the 40D for 2 years before I trade it for a 1D3 and I was never aware that there is an "A" wording before the lowest ISO!

Best of all I only got to know this auto ISO feature was available on my ex-40D today, 5 years later! Now who is being outdated? :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

good that u don't know so that u do not have to rely on it.
it is a good thing too.

Don't worry.. not everyone reads the manual word by word..
I also tend to miss out certain features, until someone tells me "what? don't you know your cam can do this and this?" :bsmilie:

BTW, you should check out whether 1Ds3 has auto ISO and some of the advanced feature or not.. You are considering to buy a 2nd hand 1Ds3 right? Don't later when buy, realized you are buying something more ancient than your 1D3 ;p

Nowadays the metering systems are quite accurate.. So far on auto ISO, my 7D has done quite an intelligent job. The sensitivity levels selected were rather appropriate.

Seriously I never wanted or dreamed of auto ISO. Never come to my mind at all. Its a good-to-have feature but not a necessity to me. :)

Wow... the last 70 to 80 posts were dedicated primarily to Auto-ISO!

I've never used this feature and didn't realize that I had it on my 40D, 50D and 7D! I'll have to experiment with this feature and see how it works out!

IS and high ISO should give you better results than high ISO alone. Of course you can use both if the situation arises. My point is not about either or, but that IS is still useful.

IS is very useful... and why a lot of Canon fan lamenting the lack of IS in 24-70 II.........

Or could Canon be secretly delaying the 24-70mm to release the IS version?????

ok. let me tell u all how to get the exposure compensation, auto iso and shutter speed that you guys want

use the camera in Av mode. then set the iso to auto. adjust the exposure compensation as wanted. put the shutter as auto or any minimum speed u want.

the camera will meter according the exposure u want, then the shutter speed will go to the lowest possible. if its on auto, then it will go to the lowest speed thats closest to your focal length. then the iso will compensate to get the exposure. simple.

Yes but the min speed is only to a fastest 1/250..what if you need more :) anyways, i use Auto ISO on a daily basis for regular walkbout shooting etc. I just set the max ISo to something low like 1600 or 3200 and use Av mode 99% of the time..this combo works very well for me..

use manual mode. lol. seriously. don't be too reliant on auto settings. u shld strive to be a better photographer in all areas right? :D

'better' doesn't mean you have to be on manual settings. no?

You need to show big words for your explanation?:)

Yes! It does mean u need to be not reliant on technology. No? If one day the tech fails u, do u stop taking the photo? Hehe.

Actually using Auto ISO is more for convenient sake.i switch between Auto ISO and manual ISO depend on situations.this settings is not difficult to master.

I don't feel it's relying on technology, more on exploiting it, since it's made available to us. Sure I can make do with manual ISO, albeit the bit of inconvenience.

Companies spent millions on R&D and consumers fork out money to acquire these gadgets but choosing to go back to primitive ways when there are aids readily available on hand? Doesn't make sense to me.

So, why do you have a digital camera?

My motto is very simple, I shoot with selective modes that the camera provides to fit the exact situation. The key is, I decide the mode and not the camera.
