omg im not going 40D!! lol...well my lens collection very humble. 15-85 and 50 f/1.8. i dun plan to buy too many lenses. and the only flash i use is 270EX. dun see the need for anything more currently. so looking at wad i do and shoot, i feel 550D will suit me well cuz got the much better noise control and the colors produced arent reddish like 50D's. the batteries and grip are cheaper too. that's why i like the rebel series bodies. i dunnid the fps, i always shoot one-shot anyway. and the video...is a plus because i'm videography trained. lol!
Always view the pictures taken on computer, not on the 550D LCD!! I always find colour extremely appealing when view on 550D LCD than computer screen, any fellow 550D user face the same issue also?? :bsmilie:

If u have justified ur needs, go ahead. Do have a feel on how 550D feel like on ur hand before making final decision.

yeah its a $400 top up. I think my budget can only stretch to $1.1k...damn. anyway brothers, i'm on a 50D and considering going to sell it for the 550D for better IQ. The 50D has just too much noise and the photos have a tint of magenta/red which I don't fancy. anyone with any idea what would i lose shld i switch to the 550D? basically i am a streets/travel/family shooter. any advice is much appreciated!
Bro you’re in the same boat as me in terms of low light use. I think the 15.1mp sensor doesn’t do well at 3200 and above, and sometimes 3200 is needed in concert settings, even with 2.8 lens.

I’ve been seriously considering upgrading to the 7D, not thinking about the 550D, because from my recent concert shoot, 3fps and the very small raw Buffer is quite limiting. It’s not even about just continuous shooting. In the situations where you have to take multiple shots in quick succession, adjust and shoot somemore, you’ll find you won’t even get to check your shots exposure because the camera is still writing to the card.

But if these features don’t matter to you, based on PURE IQ and Low light then ok. I just think it’s a case of paying $ to lose some features you might miss later. Oh, the XXXD series shutter is quite loud compared to the XXD and XD series ;)

7D is too expensive for me now, and the 2nd hand prices are still only $100-200 off the street price.

its the same as the 500D ya? so shldnt be a problem...other than the fact i nearly dropped a 500D holding it the way i always hold my 50D...=/ the IQ is irresistable! when u shoot in broad daylight does your images come out abit reddish?

Yea, the canon 15.1 mp sensor is known to be a lil red heavy, thou the 500D is less than the 50D, I still then to have to do some WB in post processing. It’s not alot, but it’s still a noticable tad redder than what I see. It might be the metering thou. The 18mp iFCL sensor metering pair looks to be more natural, but for now I still think it’s either 7D, or failing that wait for the 60D. Because 500D to 550D is just too little of an upgrade to spend a possible $400 or more.

wah so jialat. well...i dunno if i will ever need to shoot quickly cuz i no longer do commercial assignments. i usually shoot one shot, turn on the display and look at the photo awhile...den turn it off and shoot again. haha! so thats why i feel the 550D's lack of spd to be sufficient.

Bro, maybe you should just change to the 550D. You have been contemplating on it for the longest time now (even before the 550D launched) and from most of your post, you already know what you want and why you want to change.

No need for others to justify your change..as long as you are comfortable and know what you are doing, which I feel you most probably know, then go ahead!!

Good luck!

;)

well all my frens think im crazy and stupid to "downgrade". anyway is the 550D fast enough to do streets? like instant snapshots and candids of ppl? The 50D focuses real fast within a split second in the day and i'm bloody used to that.

Don’t see why it shouldn’t be. My 500D does it really fast. Lock, swish of the USM, Snap. Then again i’m using a f2.8 or better usually so, it might affect because I think the center AF point is the cross type that is more sensitive at f2.8

OH on that note, the 550D only has the center AF as a cross type. The 50D has all cross type right?

Can't really comment coz I haven't really use the 50D so I'm not in the position to compare. 7D is fast though. Sell your 50D and go 7D!

:)

ya 50D all are cross type...but if the cross type is only take effect with f/2.8 lens...den no pt. im not using such lenses.

Nothing wrong to that. :)

Not really, cross type AF allow u to lock focus faster in low light irregardless f Aperture.

I find 550D centre AF point very fast & good, but the other 8 points are painfully slow.
However, it can be solved if u mount a flash that shoots IR at all AF points to assist in focus. :)

Because the 550d centre AF is cross and sensitive to lens f/2.8 or faster.
The other 8 points are not cross.

Anyway, I always use the centre AF, so far very accurate (even when I set f/1.4).

Have you tried the camera?

If you like it then get it lah... do not waste your energy by thinking upgrade/downgrade your camera anymore!

Yeah, I like the fact the center AF point is extremely good. I am facing fornt & back focus on my Tamron lens on my 350D at times (4/10 times), but with 550D centre AF cross point, the ratio went down to 0.5/10.
Very good. :)

HVB88, high five.
When I walk out suntec city that they, I am wonder if I made an impulse purchase. Right now, i am very happy that I bought 550D. I am shooting in live view mode more than VF, just like a digicam. lolx

High five Bro Soons!

Just bought iphone screen protector from daiso... need to cut it manually though.

Next purchase would be extra battery... :P
Going to get the original since the price is about 60-65.

I guess Bro auden09 will be joining this group... :bsmilie:

I saw his 50d in the BnS... goodluck Bro!

hehe yeah. im gonna get this camera hopefully fri or sat. so excited! i realised i can make do without the weight, and altho i shoot in all the AF pts depending on how i frame my subject i think i can make do with it for the sake of versatility. 50D is juz too bulky and i carry my camera everywhere i go (just in case got nice moments to take). 550D - can't wait!!! i just hope the buyer dun PS me on fri. zzz...anyway u guys getting the battery grips? that bg is one reason why i wanna go 550D...it looks pretty good as compared to the xxD grip. the xxD grip is damn pathetic. old technology with lots of battery related issues.

so its just in low light then this cross type thingy will be effective? broad daylight...no problem right?

Broad daylight, digital cameras also no problem. lolx

However, I suspect that the other AF points are good at F5.6 onwards. Daylight should be ok.
