Official Canon 550D User Thread Part IV

Hi Odyssey is the event open to everybody? cause i have just brought my d550 and will certainly want to learn from the pro more about the camera

Joined today as a new member, brought my 550D abt 2 months back.
Here's what I have currently:
Kit Len 1 - EF-S 18-55 IS
UV filter
Steinzeiser Tripod

My question: was pondering about getting a 2nd or 3rd lens
EF50mm f/1.8 II
EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS

Kindly advise on the above 2 selections, all comments are welcome.

haha:)

got new updates, keeping my body and saving up for an ultimate lens, the 28mm f/1.8 USM !

As you can see, right now I'm with the 17-50 and 85 and 8mm. I can continue using them if I change to a 60D. I'm fine with the top up of $650, but problem is, I don't get what I want, the micro adjustment, the MG Body. My next won't be the 7D too, paying so much yet for a Crop body.

So, right now, stick back to the 550D, get the 28mm, most probably my next upgrade will be the 5D mark II or the 1D mark III, and just using the 28mm and 85mm.

In that case, after some calculation, I won't be losing much money with a major upgrade. Then instead, i will be saving more.

so u mean i can del ur post in ctr forum? lol. =x

Both are very good value for money lenses. you definitely wont regret if you buy them, but you might want to check what you really need. do you need a longer focal length or wider aperture?

Hi, recently a nikon d5000 user.
Due to my friends buying me a 550d, i decided to sell my own d5000 away. Thus i'm now a canon 550d user. Hope to learn from you all. :)

Good question, don't think i will need a longer focal length for the time being. I should just get the EF50mm f/1.8 II now. Thanks.....

haha, no problem, we are all here to help each other (: just a warning though about the 50mm f1.8, the AF motor can be a little inaccurate as some times, you might want to save up abit more for the 50mm f1.4 or try a thirdparty prime. If this is just for fun purposes, than i m pretty sure u wont regret getting the 50mm f1.8

Hi all,
I have been using 550D with the kit lens 18-135mm for couple of months now and lately I have been having the thought of getting a lens that would give me a wider angle of view and EF-S 10-22mm caught my attention. Now, would that indeed give me wider angle of view, as I also understand that the same lens would give different results on different cameras. But I just can't comprehend the logic behind this and how would I know what would the angle of view turn out to be? :dunno:
Any kind soul can help to enlighten me please? Thanks alot...:)

I have the 550D and the Canon 10-22mm. I could not make so many shots so far as I am also quite new to photography. From my perspective (I love landscape and wide-angle shots) the 10-22mm is THE lens to go with. I compared to a 17-40L of a friend and finally made my decision PRO the 10-22mm and CONTRA the (better built) 17-40L. The angle of this thing amazes me whenever I see my pictures.

In a nutshell: I would buy it again, but remember to bring a standard zoom just in case :)

550D is crop body (APS-C sensor size) camera so lens have to multiply by 1.6x.

Meaning, 10-22mm lens when use in 550D is effectively a 16-35mm lens.

5D on other hand is Full frame thus 10-22mm lens on 5D no change...

I think I understand better now.. so that would mean that when purchase a new lens I would need to consider the crop factor of 1.6 for 550D to obtain its "effective range"..
But how does that affect the angle of view? Sorry for so many questions.. haha!:bsmilie:
Thanks again!

Here, try this field of view visualisation tool.

The image on that page was apparently taken with a 17mm lens. Click on 1.6x crop to get an idea of what you might get if using a 550D.

Must remember that EF-S lens cannot be used on FF cameras, which is 10-22mm is unable to be used on 5D.

Hi again, I'm considering buying the 550D Kit I + 55-250mm lens from Japan but I think international warranty would not be included. Not too sure if this would be an issue? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi.. I jus started learning photography not long ago. so hope to learn a trick or 2 from the PROs. Cheers~!
